Case Over pressure Due to neck sizing only.

Then i think 02 should turn his necks down another thou. and see what happens then, guess no one believe this works. I've said it in other posts but no one has tried it I guess! Hello can you hear me the necks are tight!

how will the neck get bigger if he mentioned nothing of a tight neck chamber.

eric32 when you fire the gun the brass goes toward the neck, all he is doing is neck sizing, I use to have that problem with my 308 Baer! all I'm saying is if he turn the necks a little he will get rid of the problem. I use to drive myself nut when I would get one that was tight, either with bolt lift or extraction. Turned the necks a little more problem gone. I now have 3 Thousandth clearance and can lift the bolt and open it with two fingers.

Wow, another 308Baer issue..
OP has not necked a weatherby case way down to form his 243Win.
Everybody does not have to turn their necks for large clearances, for normal extraction.

We all have our own methods of madness. I neck size 3 times, then full length size. I trim the brass after the full length sizing because it gets close to the max spec. I've had zero issues using this cycle. I don't load hot. Ultimately, the primer pockets wear out and I recycle the brass.

Have you checked the overall length of the case?

Sounds like the case has grown in length and you are pushing the mouth into the leade.

That will make for very high pressure as it effectively is crimping the case into the bullet.

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum however not new to shooting.

I have been reloading for around 12 mounts now, and have came across some problems I'm hoping some Experienced loaders have answers to.

My load is for the .243 WIN and is as follows; Nosler Custom case; CCI BR2 primer; 41.3 grains of AR22009; Berger 95 grain VLD target. COAL 2.744" 0.060" off lands.

I have worked up and been using this load for for some time now, however on my last two shoots, showed signs of over pressure, Velocity and POI changes. I have fired these cases six or maybe seven times.

I have only ever neck sized the cases, and noticed that they all are starting to get harder to chamber and some to extract, I have double, if not triple checked all other measurements, being; COAL; Powder charge; case length ect.

My question is, can neck sizing only cause pressure problems and how if so?

My solution will be to just full length size all my cases after every four or five shots, am I on the right track??

Cheers Breeny.

What are your signs of pressure? What i see is normal signs of not sizing …… hard to close, the shoulder needs set back. hard to open the base needs sized. Save your self a lot of problems and full length size every time, you will have uniformity every time. They will shoot better but don't over work the brass, i have no idea what chamber you have but i don't like to size more than a .001- .002 at the shoulder and a .0005 - .001 at the base with a good bushing die…….. jim

Mikecr Your an Engineer doesn't a 243 and 308 Bare's brass all do the same thing when they are fired. Maybe you have a special kid off brass! Stick to Groundhogs.

Apparently not.
A 243win does NOT have to be neck turned to extract ok, barring some other issue(like seating bullet bearing in excessive oversizing created donuts). And a NS'd only 243win does not fire with higher pressure than a FL sized 243win with the same load.
I know of no cartridges exhibiting the opposite, except,, well,, that pesky 308Baer sounds like a real bear.

I agree...look for a carbon ring.

FL size and bump the shoulder .001 everytime gives me good consistency and indefinite? brass life with average pressures.

Thanks
