^^^^^^^^For along time I used Imperial Sizing Wax (ISW) on the entire case (including the shoulder and neck). and I had a problem with inconsistent shoulder bumps. I tried a number of alternatives with little success. What I do now, which seems to work quite well is - I dunk the case neck in Imperial Graphite Neck Lube, then with my fingers I apply a think coat of ISW, only to the body of the case, so there is no lube on the shoulder. I now get very consistent should bumps using Whidden "click-adjustable" sizing dies. Then I finish the neck with a mandrel, while it is still lubed with graphite.
ISW is very easy to remove too. You can just wipe it off with a paper towel or I usually tumble my cases after the mandrel sizing (they are never dirty, because I pick them out of the action and put them back in the cartridge box, so initial cleaning is unnecessary).
When I have problems with consistent shoulder bump on my BRASS, I ANNEAL.
To get consistent shoulder bump, don’t try to optimize/uniform friction instead use Redding’s sets of thicker shell holders. Set positive contact with the right shell holder will give much more repeatable results.
Imperial Sizing Die Wax on the barrel of the case, dip the shoulder/neck in graphite. Reloading was never meant to be a speedy proposition.
In that case you should be getting a very consistent shoulder bump. Since the dies are made so the cases always will chamber the set back tend to be too much.I'm getting very positive contact with my shellholder
I relearned case lube when I started shooting BR and loading at the range. I use lanolin with 10% Neatsfoot oil, touch a finger in the tub and smear a very light coat over the case and neck, so light you can barely feel any lube. I also use bushing dies so never the need for the inside of the neck. Also I have learned not to wipe off the case after sizing, brass last longer and cuts down on trimming by 80%.
The brass doesn't grow is what I've found out, I shoot the same 8-10 cases up to 10 times a day at matches and used to have to trim back every 3 or 4 times. I was shown this by a HOF shooter one day and since them my cases might need trimmed every 10-15 shots. How does not wiping off your lube increase case life and reduce trimming need?
