case head separation

I had a case head pull off in my 243AI this morning and I was not successful in removing it with a 27 caliber bronze brush pulled backwards through the barrel. What is my next step? Thanks. Tom

Plug the bore about half inch past neck. Don't need be exact. Cast cerosafe in and tap out through muzle with wooden dowel. If the cast slips from the brass left in then CAREFULLY use a needle file to score the inside of the brass so that it doesn't slip. Try without score first as there is much smaller chance of damaging/scratching your chamber with wood and cerosafe.

Doc, I looked on Brownell's site and didn't see any for 24 caliber. Am I looking in the wrong place as always?

I looked them up in the catalogue and, they have changed the design. The old ones were similar to a tap but expandable. The new ones appear to be for 223 and 308 only.

Maybe this is the wrong way to do it, but get a set of taps and run one down into the brass just until it is finger tight. Then back it out and run an allthread down to engage the thread you just cut. A washer and a nut on the back of the action should pop it right out.

Would def avoid using a tap unless you really know what you are doing. most thread depths are very close to the thickness of the brass. You could very easly thread your chamber. I use the cerosafe on 50 bmg chambers when the "right tool" for the job didn't cut it.

I've used a .7mm jag and a 30+ caliber patch thru the rear of the action. Jam in snug and and pull it should pop right out. It has for me.
