Case color change - metallurgy question

IDK about a risk . I mean people have been wet tumbling with lemishine for many years . I’d think there would be hundreds of threads by now talking about ruined brass do to lemishine . The OP can’t be the first one to have left there brass in the liquid over night or had this color change .

I’ve seen maybe hundreds of threads talking about wet tumbling over the years . This is the first time the brass being ruined because of the color has ever come up .

It’s interesting for sure but until now I would have never given it a second thought . Not sure I’ll think about it in the future. YMMV

Agree, there probably has been millions of cases tumbled with Lemishine. No-one has ever reported a corrosion problem. In my previous post I said my 6BR cases probably had 30 hours in Lemashine. It's probably closer to 50. No problem. I wonder how many good cases got thrown out by some of the commentss?

Boy oh boy, you guys took me back 65yrs to the school house! Was eating lunch outside and happened to overhear two science teachers in an argument over infinity. Up until then I thought all "experts" agreed on the facts..... Seems it ain't so... John

I forgot my tumbler for 3 days once. It was Winchester 308 brass. Once removed, brass was just like chrome plated. Loaded it with little lighter load(just lower node), shot fine.

Once put too much vinegar in and had Norma 308 brass turn copper colour. Shot that brass many times in matches, won a few, no problems. That brass is still in service.

I bet you if someone was to ask “I sneezed on my brass, is it safe to shoot?” We will have 15 page discussion, how it will affect accuracy all the way to how it will cause gun to blow up hence throw out the brass and a box of bullets which was sitting close by to be safe:rolleyes::p:D:D

I think the real concern would be if the droplets from your sneeze got inside the brass and reduced the internal volume, causing gun vaporizing levels of high pressure in otherwise mild and safe loads. To be safe, I think throwing away all your gun stuff and buying a nice house plant is the only suitable course of action:D.

The brass cases are not like sponges and the water, soap, and Lemi-Shine did not soak into the brass.
Meaning only the surface of the case is discolored, and 0000 steel wool or wet tumbling again will bring back the bling.

You are not the only one who made the same mistake but do not ask me how I know.
