Just a heads up

I normally use a little Dawn and a dash of Lemishine in my tumbler with SS pins to clean my brass. Tonight I was out of Dawn so I decided to try Simple Green. BIG mistake. My twice fired Lapua Brass came out looking more like tarnished copper than brass! Went and borrowed some Dawn from my neighbor and put it back in the tumble...no go. Have just spent several hours with Flitz to get it back to looking like brass. I suppose it was functional, but my OCD just would not let me use it looking like that! Simple Green will never get anywhere near my brass again.

How much Simple Green did you use per volume of water? I regularly switch between Dawn and Simple Green, depending on which is closer to the tumbler at the time, with no problems. I use 1 table spoon of Simple Green to 3.25 liters of water. I do small batches of brass, 25-75 pieces at a time.

Hmmm...I must have used too much. I was using the little tumbler for about 20 cases so I put about half a teaspoon in with around 2 cups of water. Did not expect that chemical reaction though. :-[

May have been a reaction between the Lemishine and Simple Green.
I use simple green from time to time and have not had issues.

You probably ended up with some very clean stainless steel pins.
LOL

I use one part simple green to seven parts water and tumble for two hours. The brass always looks great. If I go longer the brass starts to turn a green color, no harm but just does not look good. No need to go past two hours anyway.

Simple green in the gallon jug is concentrated and needs dilution for simple cleaning. IF that is what you used, then you were probably using about 20 times the strength as necessary. IF that is of course.

Yep. Gallon jug of concentrate. I also did not get back to turn the tumbler off as soon as I wanted so it was in there about 3.5 hours! Live and learn!
