Cartridge Recommendations for a PPC boltface.

I have a drop port action with a ppc boltface and I know that you are probably going to say go with the 6 PPC but.... I have it. I’m a non- competitor who likes very accurate cartridges that you don’t want to waste $ having built that when the time comes to sell it there’s very few that would want it ,ie. a 7.62 x 39 Bench Gun ! I know that the obvious choice is the PPC but any other REASONABLE choices? We all have rifles built thinking that we will own them forever but I can guarantee you that it will be sold at some time. Your post leaves me wondering about you primary objective, but a 6 Grendel or a 30 Major(grendel) might make sense to you. They are both excellent and dies are a non-factor, almost. I've had good luck in registered BR matches with both and they both fit a ppc bolt as well as having good brass for..Lapua 6.5 Grendel.

................. and the new 6mm ARC Hornady. It is in effect a long-throat / fast twist PPC making it a better all-rounder and as a factory cartridge will have a wider appeal on resale. Good brass too as Lapua 6.5 Grendel easily reformed.

I don't disagree...I just don't see myself changing yet. A 6 Grendel has yielded me a 1st and a second in a National Championship match, two years running, in two diiferent classes, with two different barrels. It ain't bad, even against PPC's. In fact, mostly PPC's.

Oh and fwiw, the one I won was with 68's in a 12 twist but I shot a better score with 80's, the following year. Go figure.

The drop port might cause some issues. This depends on the design of the hole of the port.

I've shot Grendel based cartridges in drop ports without issue..fwiw. I do like the drop ports and I plan to use one for my next build.
No issues in regards function

Ppc is your only option unless you modify the drop port, of course you lose a lot of resale at that point

Mine was a Stiller Viper drop port. No modifications needed on it to run grendel based cases.

How about either a 6mm Grendel or 6.5 Grendel, keeping on the simple to use, find dies, etc. for ?

As for my own curiosity would any of the 30Rem/6.8spc family of cartridges be useable with this boldface. 0.010" difference in radius. I have no ideas on the mentioned dedicated type action.

Waldog would be cool, as would 220 Beggs. The Beggs would be terribly painless.
