Great job of focusing it correctly!I recently got a teslong borescope
Thanks, I think if you take your time with it, it’s a great unit for the money.Great job of focusing it correctly!
I'd encourage you to get a Sinclair Chamber Length plug and determine how long the chamber neck length is. Keeping the necks closer to the end of the chamber really helps with the carbon ring.Is this a carbon ring? I recently got a teslong borescope and want to know what I’m looking for. This is my 7 SAW with 513 shots on it. I’d this a carbon ring or normal? View attachment 1435062
I think I realize what my problem is. Those shots were mostly all with Virgin brass. The Virgin brass is significantly shorter than what the chamber length is. I will trim them all now to keep them closer.I'd encourage you to get a Sinclair Chamber Length plug and determine how long the chamber neck length is. If you shoot a gun you will get fit cracking. Don't freak out. As a name benchrest gunsmith told me , your accuracy comes from the last 10 inches of the barrel. I think that is correct.Like AIN says, I keep my brass about .005 under the length of my chamber and it helps minimize the ring. I also mix a small amount of TM solution in with KG-1 and it really gets rid of carbon and copper.
There is a bit of fire cracking starting in there too
You're going to trim short brass even shorter?I think I realize what my problem is. Those shots were mostly all with Virgin brass. The Virgin brass is significantly shorter than what the chamber length is. I will trim them all now to keep them closer.
Sometimes you can just soak a patch in C4 or Acetone, insert it in the throat and let it sit for awhile. Then try patching. If that doesn't work, a worn brush of the next caliber up, can be inserted and used to scrub the ring, by rotating it.I assume it needs shorts stroking to get rid of the CR?
Please do not trim virgin brass! This will only exacerbate the problem. Brass should only be trimmed after full length sizing and the cartridge is at or exceeds the MAX TRIM LENGTH listed in your manual. Then trim to MIN trim length only. A SINCLAIR INTERNATIONAL trim length gauge can help you find what the actual MAX TRIM length is for YOUR CHAMBER. Min trim length will be .010 LESS THAN MAX TRIM LENGTH.I think I realize what my problem is. Those shots were mostly all with Virgin brass. Again, it appears that he is referring to watching the length of the brass and, when trimming, keeping the brass so it's closer to the end of the chamber. Please do not trim virgin brass! No, trim them to the correct length for the chamber. The brass is now 3x fired and I’ve yet to trim so I will check a piece inside my chamber with my borescope as mentioned above and then I will trim a thousandth if needed. You're going to trim short brass even shorter?
You need another cleaning series. So I started to try to clean up the carbon ring. I took a brush 1 size over and put a soaked patch with butch’s bore shine and let it sit about 20 mins. It looks like it needs another round but a big improvement so far. View attachment 1435095
