Carbon ring cure...

Ok, no such creature I know...other than a brush and jb or iosso... So, are there really certain powders that form carbon rings more, or less? I shoot mostly 6mm Dashers, 22 br's enough that it can be an issue after 1 or 2 matches. I shoot Varget, RL16, lever evouloution (243 lbc) . I have RL 15.5 , VV N140 that I could go to. I'm also looking into VV N150....any experience with carbon for these , or other powders?? Thanks, rsbhunter

I short stroke the throat and about the first 6" of the barrel with a carbon solvent at the end of my shooting session and that seems to extend the time interval for a ring forming. I rarely get a ring with H1000 but haven't really compared powders head to head.

I use the pellets that thread on to a threaded jag, with jb bore paste. I also use a section of a three piece cleaning rod with a 25 cal bronze brush.Put the rod in a cordless drill, when I feel the brush has any resistance, spin it for a couple seconds medium speed..check with bore scope. Works, was just hoping that there was a powder that minimized the carbon ring. rsbhunter

I too use a section of cleaning rod chucked up in a drill with a slightly oversized nylon brush and some IOSSO ThorroClean. Carbon ring gone !!

Have any of you guys tried the Fritz bore cleaner. The green stuff. Tried it for the first time about a month ago. This stuff really works great for all fouling, copper, carbon etc. If you haven't tried it would be worth your while to give it a try.
Been trying to get folks to try it for several years. Talked to the owner at length about it before I tried it. I tested a dozen or more cleaners over a 2 yr period and flitz was the ticket. Only had to use an abrasive in the throat or bore on 1 horrible bore. Flitz green liquid in the same stuff as the bore cleaner but cheaper with a different label. I asked the owner

I clean every match,50-70 rounds. On 2 of my rifles I run a can, which causes carbon near the muzzle, and throat..but not as hard to remove. Like I said, was hoping that one powder had less carbon than others....rsbhunter

I use clr sometimes....I think it actually penetrates the cabin and softens it....BUT, I have seen videos where when left on stainless, WILL etch it. Of course, I don't leave it in for more than 5 minute's at most.....it's not all to bad, but it does take time.?rsbhunter

Not positive yet......

However, when I run a patch of slip 2000 down the barrel after cleaning, the barrel appears to be easier to clean and carbon ring comes right out without abrasive..... just a 6.5mm brush in the dasher chamber. Again, nothing I can say for sure, but I am using this procedure with several rifles now and it looks promising.

Edit
I generally always clean the barrel with Iosso and or the bore paste from Brownells.

I may be one of the most frugal guys on the planet because I use Kreen made by the same come company that makes Kroil. It's made for automotive use but I've never seen a more effective carbon remover.

All I can say is that my PPC with N133 carbon fouls significantly less than my 6 BR and Dasher with Varget. R15 produced more black stuff than anything else I've used, but a representative told me part of the "black" was an additive of some sort. I plan to experiment with N140 and N150.

Like you, I am very close to ordering some VV N150. I for awhile, stopped using Varget because of the carbon....but then later, compared RL 16 against Varget, and the groups were literally 1/2 the size using Varget ! So,back to Varget. But I'm hearing alot of positive things about the VV N150....so here we go again! rsbhunter
