Carbon remover

I just skimmed through my Tony Boyer and Mike Ratigan books…neither one mentions using oven cleaner for bore cleaning.

Yeah…yall might want to do a little research on the reactivity of oven cleaner products with metallic objects before hosing down your finest barrel with Easy Off.

Oven cleaner is some very basic stuff…caustically speaking.

Lawrence, Lawrence, Who is YALL?

And your point is?

Because Tony and Mike don't use it, that is the final word ::) John and Skip happened to be quite the experimenters, and innovators. The grill grates and pans on my gas grill are made from stainless steel. Oven cleaner certainly hasn't hurt them ;) You really don't know, until you have tried it. Do you ;D

A while back, my mother and father decided to move. They gave me the task of cleaning up their stainless steel grill so they could sell it prior to. Not knowing better, I hosed it down with easy off oven cleaner and let it sit…per the instructions. It never looked the same…etched. And it didn’t get all the hard burnt on carbon off.

Maybe it hadn't been cleaned on a regular basis.

;D Absolutely Butch. Absolutely ;)

I use to use GM Top engine cleaner (Metal can stuff, no longer sold). I read about Seafoam and bought some. Mixed some 3:1 with Kroil and Mixed some 3:1 with Marvel Mystery oil.

I found if I ran about 6 wet patches through the barrel (10 minutes apart) each was getting a little lighter. Then ran a couple of patches with Buches Bore Shine. That the Seafoam loosened up a lot more carbon than running just Butches Bore shine alone. I use Montana Copper Killer for copper.

I've recently switched to just regular old Snake Oil... The bore scope doesnt show any improvement over JB's but the psychological advantage I get over standard JB's and elbow grease seems to justify the cost.... Lol

I am going to try a batch of my own recipe very soon. I will share it as soon as I am happy with it.
