Can’t get myself to buy “seconds” bullets

75% of what I shoot are blems. Mostly what I see are fingerprints on bullets. I'm not shooting competition any more but I still prefer a tax driver and I see little to no difference.

they have there place for sure, i use blems for varmints, and fire forming brass. they work fine. but i use good bullets for quality practice and matches.

I purchased several bags of Nosler .224 55gr BT that had gray tips directly from Nosler. They loaded and shot exactly the same as boxed 55 BT's. Wish I had ordered a couple thousand, I believe they were tagged cosmetic blems.

My last purchase of "blems" was from MidwayUSA, being 62 grn. ELDVT's. They shoot sub 1/4 MOA out of my custom .22 Nosler bolt gun. I had previously bought several boxes of first run ELD's when the rifle was being built. Still haven't found the need to break into them. I'd have no problem being "competitive" with a lot of bench rest shooting buddies who only use custom bullets - and these are blem varmint bullets at half price. This is pretty typical of my experiences buying Nosler blems, though this was the first time I didn't buy them from Shooter's Pro Shop - so was a little skeptical of what I might get. For my varmint rifles, the cost savings on blem bullets more than pays for my replacement barrels, and I have yet to feel I was disadvantaged when shooting the critters. I'm sure there are other blems out there that aren't up to snuff from what I've read. This is an old post - but still relative...

Sometimes I worry that places use those two terms interchangeably though.
back in my younger day when i had plenty of time and components were cheap blems woulda been fine for much of my shooting. dont remember them being around then though. mabie the LGS didnt want us to know. these days im in late 60s and shooting time i have left is limited whatever it is and components are not cheap so i try to make each shot count. in my case its just not worth my time to go through all the steps and then use a bullet thats a second. for blasting i use a10/22 in 22lr and federals .

I shoot quite a few blems, 2nds and even pulls. But my favorites are factory over runs. A couple of years ago I picked up a few hundred 6.5mm 90gn factory over runs from Midway that turned out to be Nosler Varmageddons. My Grendel loves them.
