Canjar Trigger

I have just aquired a Remington 700 VLS with a Canjar single set trigger. No safety and no bolt release. Am I going to have to clean this gun from the muzzle and push everything into the chamber, or is there a trick to getting the bolt out without taking the action out of the stock?

The bolt release is pinned to the reciever by the rear trigger pin, which acts as the pivot point for the release. The part that stops the bolt comes up through the bottom of the left lug raceway,as viewed from the back of the rifle) and engages the back of the left lug to keep the bolt in the action. With the bolt in the open position, reach down the left raceway with an Allen wrench, pocket screwdriver, or the like, and depress the stop with one hand, holding it down while sliding out the bolt. The stop return spring is not very strong, and once the stop is down flush with the bottom of the lug raceway, the bolt should slide right out. Don't try to force anything. The other thing that you may have to do is to knock out the pin that holds the trigger shoe to the trigger,on a Canjar single set)unless the floorplate opening for the trigger has been widened. If this is needed, do it before loosening the stock screws and support the parts while removing the pin.

Thank you for your help. I just took the bolt out for the 1st time. Everything I have read states that Canjar is out of business. I don't know if a safety was ever available for this trigger, but I would like one if it was out there somewhere. This rifle appears to be set up fine and is in new condition. I hope to get it to the range this weekend.

I don't think that there was a safety made for that trigger. One alternative is one of the Model 70 type safeties that used to be made for the 700. They are expensive and require fitting, and finishing. I believe that they come/came in the white, unblued)

My M700 Canjar SST has a conventional Remington style side safety. I bought the trigger used at a gunshow, so don't know if the safety was original to the trigger or not. It looks slightly different than the factory Remington safeties I have, so think it may have come with the trigger. Great trigger by the way! One of my favorite field triggers. Vic
