Candidate for .223 Ackley?

I picked up a Proof Elevation MTR in .223 with a 16.5" barrel. It has an 8 twist barrel and will run supressed. Purpose of the rifle will be paper and steel with occasional coyotes. So I'm wondering if it will benefit from a re-chamber to Ackley Improved. I plan on shooting either Sierra 69 or 77 gr match kings.

I've been searching for information on the 223 Rrem Ackley Improved and coming up next to dry. Can anyone shed some light on this cartridge? I have read through some information on the Ackley Improved cartridges and understand that some cartridges show a measureable improvement, while others are marginal. Does the 223 Rem fall into the "improved" or "marginal" category? My research has revealed standard dies being available from the "mass" producers and the barrel manufacturers offer the chambering. as in another post of mine, I'm planning on building a varmint rifle for ranging out...

I would shoot it as is. You gain 2-3gr H2O with a 223AI and with a 16.5 barrel you probably won’t gain enough speed to be worth the work and cost.

With that short of barrel I’d stay with regular 223

If you're doing the work your self I say go for it just for the cool factor. That little case just makes me smile every time I see it. If its going to cost you a couple hundred bucks it may not be worth doing it.

Some real world experience from me and my Remington. I cut mine down to 20" and rechambered to Ackley. I believe it was a 12 twist, I was still able to get over 3400fps with 52gr Bergers and CFE233 and excellent accuracy. I still gained decent velocity over what my 22" Tikka gives me with the same bullet which is 3240.
