How did the US shooters travel to the range? Fly in to New York somewhere, rent a car, and drive over the border?
I drove all the way as did others. It is not a problem getting in or out of Canada with a target rifle provided you get the proper US Customs form before you leave the USA and the required Canadian form when you declare your firearms as you enter Canada. They do prohibit certain types of firearms in Canada so check first.

We had some members that flew into Ottawa with no issues. I flew into Syracuse, rented a van and drove up. No issues at all. From the people at the border to the DCRA range staff we were treated very well.

So there's no issues flying directly into Canada with firearms/ammunition then? I knew crossing the border in a car was pretty painless, but I wasn't sure about flying. Driving the entire way from the state of WA is probably not gonna be an option... :-)

Jay,
Don't overlook your ammo requirement. Only 5 kg on the airplane. If you fly you have to have other arrangements for the rest of your ammo if you are shooting very much.

Oh, good point. I've been spoiled flying Alaska domestic.

Jay - I flew from Vancouver, but it was complex for me.

You cannot give your ammo to a friend and then fly as the person whose ammo is being "imported" has to be in the vehicle. I took the ammo across the border a couple of weeks before the match and shipped it to DCRA. I then drove across the border the day before the matches began and went through the customs, paid the $25 and checked the rifle onto the plane. My cart and other "stuff" was brought in by teammates Kenny Adams and Tony Robertson. F-Open has a lot of gear and I could not have done it without their help.

Here's another trick learned from experience...
If you're flying with a non-shooting "friend", they can also transport 5 kg of ammo (for you).

I had a great time and met some great people. The range definitely take a while to figure out. The clubhouse was awesome place to stop for some BARLEY WATER. Had a chance to meet Paul and pic his brain about a 223 at 900M.

Va Jim ,

I have gone passed the barley water straight to the Barley still in excitement fallowing the fun they are still having at Cannaught.

That's some close competition, you dare not drop a V let alone a point.

Great shooting, I would guess Paul is at the club house picking up the emptys as well.

Looking forward to the return next year.

I'm a little late in seeing this but I wanted to thank everyone who came from both sides of the border to make this the best (and wettest) F-Class Nationals to date. It was nice to be able to put faces to names, and get a chance to spend some time sharing this great sport in its original format. I will be sure to pass on all your kind words to the staff in the DCRA office, as they always like to hear that people are leaving feeling that they were well taken care of and enjoyed their time in the "Great Wet North" ;)

Looking forward to seeing many of you back in the coming years, and if there are any questions about upcoming shoots at Connaught just let me know.

All the best!

Scott
