Can someone run quickload for me N550 7SAUM 180 VLD

I would like to try N550 in my 7 Saum could someone run it thru quickload and give me a starting point.

26in 8.7 twist.
180 VLD 3.100 Coal 10 thou Jam.

I was thinking about 52 grains would be a good starting point ?

Thanks Corey

try around 65.5gr of H1000. . . . . . TRUST me ;D it works very well for at least 3 other guys that have tryed my load.

in a 30" brl youll be around 3000fps with a .020" jam

52.0 gr. N550 is a good place to start. However, N550 is too fast burning for the SAUM, try N560 instead. 58.0 gr. N560 is a good place to start.

Erik,
When looking at powders in QL, how do I determine if a powder is too fast? If the percent burnt is 100, is that too fast? I ran the powder comparison and I do see that it recommends N560 over the N550, but I would like to know how to see it in the input and calc main page. Can you help?

100% burn is what you are looking for, or close to it.

The way I know a powder is too fast is when you hit max pressure with slow speed and a low case fill ratio.

A powder is too slow when you run out of case capacity before you hit max pressure.

Ideal powder is when you hit max pressure with close to 100% case fill ratio and 100% powder burn in barrel.

Can someone run quick load for me N550 7SAUM 180 VLD

Hi
I don't want to steal your thread.
But I am just putting a 7 saum together and have read all post's about them.

My question, VV165 can any one shed some light on this powder, I have a heap of it and it seems to sit right in the burn rate zone of the most recommended powders.

30" 1:9 twist Benchmark 3 grove, 175g SMK's, Rem brass, BR2.

Anyone with Quick load Please???????

N165 will work for the 7mm RSAUM.

Start at 59.0 grains and work your way up, you should be able to get close to 3,000 fps. but all rifles are different, stop when you experience pressure signs.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Eric,
I like the cool burn qualitys of vv165 and hoped it would work.
I run it in .243AI and a .260AI, it would make life nice if I can stay with one powder.

I must have a really hot batch of h1000 because 64 grains is super hard on my brass.

what brand of brass are you using and what is your chamber throated for? i did some testing and on virgin rem brass i could get 6-7 firings with 66gr of H1000. if you load it a few times at say around 62gr to toughen up the primer pockets you will get even longer brass life.

i tryed 4831sc and it didnt seem to get the velocity and just didnt seem to shoot as well. some guys are having great sucess with h4350! i dont know how they can get near 3000fps with powder that fast but apparently it works. for me a full case of the slowest practical powder that produces the best accuracy is what handloading is all about.

Still wondering how compressed this load is. At about 108%, would the neck tension need to be pretty tight to keep the bullet working its way out?

i dont have quick load so i do it by feel. with a .188 freebore and .020" jam and a 180berger the boat tail protrudes into the powder. i only run .002 neck tension and find it more than enough.

i dont just dump the whole charge into the funnel because it will fill up into the neck. use a drop tube or pour the powder in gradually.
