Can anyone tell me what this is?

I got this in a grab-bag of reloading equipment and components at an auction. It looks to be new but I have no idea what it is, or even if it's related to firearms. I'm only assuming it is since everything else in the bag was. Any help is appreciated!

It IS the back strap from a 1911- nicely checkered and ready to go. It is a flat one as opposed to the arched variety. Some one would love to have it...
