Camp Grayling Michigan Events

Hey everyone, new to the forum here. I live near Camp Graying here in Michigan, which I just found out that they hold different shooting events. Now the websites I have visited are not the greatest, but I am interested in attending as spectator or even get involved in some amateur events. My question is, is there anyone here that has attented there? Are there open events for entry for the amateur shooter? Really if anyone has any information I would be glad to hear it. I think my father and I are heading down there May 12th for our first time. Thanks

Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association, visit the Web site, then look at Long Range and Silhouette on that site you should find the information you need.

You need to get your name on the "permitted entry list" to get on the Camp Grayling base if you want to come through the front gate. Believe me you want to come through the front gate the back gate way in ( Arrow Head Road) is a horrible road. There should be information on how to get on the "list" on the site too. Just do not wait until the last minute to get your names on the list.

There are 800, 900 and 1000 yard slow fire prone high power rifle matches at Camp Grayling for civilian shooters and there are High Power Silhouette matches for Civilians. We use Range #10

There is also a new private 1000 yard range scheduled to open up just north of Lake City off of M-66. Opening day is scheduled for May 19. Marksmanship Training Center is the name of this new range. They also have a web site.

There is also a 1000 yd private range in the U.P., Border States Range I believe is the name of it.

There are a few 600 yard high power ranges located though out the state that hold High Power matches. Cadillac Sportsman's Club in Cadillac is probably the closest to Grayling. Iosco Sportsman's Club is probably the next Closest, then Midland Sportsman's Club, then Washtenaw Sportsmans Club by Ypsilanti down state and Blue Water Sportsman's Club in the thumb. Other ranges may go out to 300 to 500 yards which may or may not have target pits but still hold reduced distance High Power matches. There are also a few ranges that hold HP and small bore silhouette matches throughout the state.

Thanks for the reply. We have contracted Camp Grayling and are one the Entry list. We are going to camp on site. As of right now, neither of us have the equipment nor the skill to shoot 1000 yards. I think just being there if there are no events that we could possibly enter, is still going to be fun and a learning experience.
