looking for reviews. I am looking into purchasing one, but have seen a that many people are not having very good luck with the one locking nut striping out. OR is there another joystick front rest out there that is better for the buck?

You get what you pay for. Unfortunately a good rest cannot be a budget minded purchase. The cheapest way to get a joystick rest that actually works is to buy a hart base and a shadetree top

Just about any base an Butch Lambert joystick. (shadetree) . You can,t go wrong..

If you cant afford the aforementioned rests try bullets.com for one of their rests at a very reasonable price and add the shadetree to their bottom later on.Get the cast iron base for sure.

I had a Caldwell for a while. I always thought the handle was too long, so I cut off a few inches and was pretty happy with it. I think I bought it on sale for $160 ish. It wasn't what you get for $800, but it didn't cost that much.

If you don't find what you are looking for, I have a Sinclair cast iron base, with T-handles and base screws included, in as new condition. I also have two original Bald Eagle slingshot rests with windage tops. One aluminum and one cast iron.

This is the led sled in joystick version. IMHO it wouldn't even make a good boat anchor. The Caldwell joy stick mechanism is made out of inferior materials that won't take repeated use without readustment for wear. The Led Sled concept is flawed because your POI and accuracy is only repeatable when the rifle is fired in the same manner - Reason being that the bullet is still in the barrel in the early stage of recoil.

I have the Bullets.com cast iron slingshot rest with the shade tree engineering top on it and couldn't be happier. Having said that, I know and shoot with a nationally ranked high master shooter that got there and until recently used a Caldwell fire control rest and a rebarreled savage ftr no less. If you can get the slingshot rest and the shade tree top with the bullets.com feet and three inch front bag, it will be money well spent. I'd get the aluminum base instead of the cast iron if I had it to do again though although the cast iron is very very stable, just too heavy to lug around for me.

If you are in the market for SERIOUS results, do as Dusty says. I have two older model Caldwell rests sitting on my shelf for a reason. And again as Dusty says, you get what you pay for. If you are serious, do the smart thing, bite the bullet and buy a GOOD rest as he suggests. You won't be disappointed, but you could end up having second thoughts by buying a lesser expensive rest such as the Caldwell. If you are happy with "Hunting Accuracy," then by all means go with the Caldwell as it'll serve you well. But if you want ACCURACY quality, go with the Hart base and Shadetree top. They are still cheaper than what you see these days on the Serious Competition Shooting Line. Or if you get a chance, go watch the competitors shoot at a notable competition and see what all they use.

In any case, good luck, have fun and keep things in perspective in terms of the equipment you use that'll get you to the level of shooting you desire. And all that comes from someone who over the years, has shelled out more money in having to re-buy equipment that didn't match the desire for increased accuracy.
