CA Rifle Builder ??

Greetings,
Do any of our California shooters know anything about a rifle builder "J Navarro". I am looking at a rather nicely built commercial 98 Mauser, in .243, with his barrel stamp. All I have learned was he operated in the central CA area.

Thanks,
John

I can`t find a darn thing.......

The last name sounds familiar, but that still dosen`t help matters much....

Do you know what city he was in???

Full first name???

Phil.

Darn..........

I looked the name up and tried adding gunsmith / gunsmithing in different ways, but probably found out less than you did.......

There are a few central valley Ca. guy`s on here, maybe one of then can be of some help, just keep bumping this to the top and see if one of them spots it.

Sorry, that`s the best i`ve got......

Phil.

All I have is "J Navarro" stamped on the barrel
John, IIRC correctly I seem to remember a smith that was written up in Precision Shooting Mag. a number of years ago who might have been named Navarro. If my memory is correcto_O he was based out of his home in Oakland, California of all places. I will try and see if I can find the article and get back to you. dedogs

Greetings,
Thank you. Do you recall what decade the PS article was in?? It's a nice rifle none the less....
John

The only Navarro rifles I've ever heard about were used in the Civil War.
Been in CA all my life and never heard the name associated with a CA gunsmith.

Greetings,
Thanks for the assist. My SoCal cousin bought it in early 80's from original owner, built by " J Navarro". Original owner got it in early 70's. Simple and very detailed build on a very clean commercial 98 Mauser action, in the California Sporter / Varminter style. I will just shoot and enjoy it.

Take care guys,
John

Sorry John, My memory was incorrect. The guy I was thinking about is Anthony Pettiti from San Lorenzo which is just a little south of Oakland. Article was in the Feb.2001 edition of PSM. My apologies for getting your hopes up. dedogs

Hmm, a bit before my time with customs, but the name doesn't ring any bells either. Maybe jump on Calguns.com and ask over there.
