So you can't use 5.56? Palmetto State Armory has some interesting loads at reasonable prices. It's their AAC brand. I tried some 55gr Vmax's they loaded for $9.95 a box and they shot really well. I stuffed 5 in the magazine of a Remington 783 with a 16.5" barrel and this is what I got.

Barnes 55 grain open tip match ammo for about $12.00/box and Federal 55 grn for $47.00/100 rounds. Not too shabby in these times!
