Buying a trued Remington 700

And Roeder I didn't post the sellers name on here so theres no reason to cry foul I have no reason to seek sympathy from you or no one else brother. I sent pics to the seller and didn't get much back other that im stuck with it.
I wasn't crying foul, I wasn't trying to defend your seller, and I didn't think you were seeking sympathy. You wanted to know if it was possible to tell if your action had been blueprinted. I just thought that some of the responses to your post were presumptuous. I'm happy that you got it sorted out. I am curious as to what your local smith had to say after he looked at it.

He said the action looked as if it had been faced, other than that no. The bolt face wasn't trued and considering the lathe jaw marks in the barrel its difficult to believe it even has a Krieger barrel on it. NO way to tell the maker of the barrel but a good smith doesn't leave jaw marks and a good smith doesn't crudely grind the recoil lug like this one. Ill admit when I heard Krieger barrel, trued action and well respected gunsmith from a guy with his own shop and a good seller I let my guard down.....It'll never happen again that is for sure. I will only order from very reputable sellers with a great history regardless off the wait time or the price. I will not do business with the seller again based on the fact in his eyes this was good work, I was told by him most of the marks and grind marks will be in the stock you cant see them anyway so whats the big deal....Well how about you date a girl with a raging case of warts on her private parts its no big deal right I mean she'll be wearing underwear you wont be able to see it....LOL. it aint right that's the bottom line. Im sure the seller is tired of me also though. Either way I learned a good lesson and it cost me a little money. I still have tons of respect for the seller he is my elder and he truly has not done anything to harm myself or my family so hes still a good dude in my eyes were all only human

Buying used custom rifles can be a bit like trying to marry a virgin. It's good to have a grace period.

Some guys here are missing the point. If action was advertised as "trued" when sold, then it should be so. Anything else is a no go in my opinion regardless of how it shoots.

OIF/OEF, just think of it this way. Where else can you go and learn this much for so little cash out of pocket? ;) Like you said, lesson learned. Forgive seller, move on, and have fun!

I did Lambert, Butch. Your advice is great. No names were given to protect the innocent. Its overwith I'll delete if it bothers you

Seller forgiven....He's a good guy in my eyes....I'd change a tire for him or help him in any way possible.

Very Respectfully

Butch your always looking out for us man your the best....thank you brother....not only does your knowledge of all things shooting never fall short but the moral guidance seems to make us all remember we all make mistakes and because of that we should never show anything short of full respect for even the worst seller. I am being serious thank you. There is always a great lesson to be learned. The mental medications are kicking in lol....gotta sign out...I seen butch compress a savage firing pin spring with his booger picker and thumb and I aint joking. I have to use tools for that. He compressed that spring until it bottomed out man Im not kidding I can hardly push that thing down with tools. Butch is a great guy at my first match he loaned me all kinds of stuff to get me started and I placed with him helping me out and giving me pointers....I got dead last place Im not joking...I had a weapon failure. Theres a difference between people that shoot and shooters.....Butch is a shooter and cares about other shooters....

Very Respectfully submitted

Yes sometimes they will surface grind the lug,and it should be straight grinding marks not swirls.

Unless it is ground on a Blanchard grinder. But that would be considered more of a crosshatch than a swirl..???

Or it could be engine turned as a finishing touch.

Lapping on a surface plate would also leave swirl marks... ;)

I lap stuff all the time, and it does not leave swirl marks - it leaves an almost mirror finish - I use #2000 final lap.

The lapping I've done didn't require that fine of a surface finish...
