Buy or No Buy on used 22 PPC brass

There's some used Lapua 22 PPC brass for sale at my LGS. Questions. Can I resize to 6PPC. If I can, should I anneal before resizing. What if the necks have been turned. I will use this in a Sako 6PPC. How will the tight neck transfer to a stock chamber. I think that is an important question. Finally, what would I offer per piece. Thanks men. Riverlife

Riverlife: Just my opinion, but I would not mess around with "used" brass. You have no idea of its' history, how many times it's been loaded and fired, the amount of shoulder setback that it had, etc. Primer pockets could be lose. Case heads could be on the verge of seperation.

You do not even know if it will chamber in your rifle. If the case necks have been turned they will be even more worked in your stock chamber, since your chamber is larger than a tight neck, meaning the necks will split, real soon. Yes, annealing might help, but bottom line, what are you saving?

Buy new Lapua 220 Russian, do the simple, quick steps to form it into 6ppc, properly size them when reloading and they will last a very long time.

Yes, that is crazy. New Lapua costs a lot less than that.

I personally know a few who use their brass until they start to get case failures, like splits in the case necks and case head seperations. They then stop using that brass, clean and polish it so it looks like new, and sell it with the claim, "Been loaded 2 or 3 times, like new".

If you figure it out, they are getting "free" brass by having someone else pay for it, in a round about way.

It happened to me years ago when I wasnt as smart.I bought a couple big bags of .218 bee brass from a smith who claimed it was good. I got it home and polished up the turds.More than 2/3rds was junk and I ended up throwing it out in the scrap bucket.Lesson learned. However I have bought several lots on this website with good results.You just have to look it over carefully to make sure it isnt going to break on the first shot. If you detect any stretching with a paper clip then it is junk.

I'm curious where you guy's are buying 22 PPC or Lapua 220 Russian for so cheap, I've had a tough time finding new 22 PPC brass for some time and the 220 Russian is usually over a $ each especially after shipping. Last Norma 22 PPC new brass I saw was $1.27 each.

Last time I looked Brunos had 220 Russian lapua at 87 cents a case. Is that current ? Is it in stock ? Everywhere else I have seen is above a dollar.........................Buy the way, thanks for all the great comments......Riverlife
