Bushnell elite 6500 tactical scope?

Hi, I'm farly new to shooting and I want to start reloading and target shooting. For a rifle I was looking at a Savage Model 12 LRPV in .223. I was told its a good place to start becuase of low costs. (I also have a pile of brass from shooting my Ruger Mini 14)

Now I have to pick a scope.
Any opinions on the Bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30x50 Tactical scope?

Thanks all.

I opted for the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30 Tactical for my .308 long range build, due to the lack of funds after getting the way I wanted it. I am very impressed with the scope in several aspects. It is very clear and draws light very well at dusk. After getting it zeroed, I reset the tactical knobs and tried some come-ups out to 500 yards, then back to zero, then out to 300 yards, then back to zero. Every time the zero returned just as it should have.....in other words I think it is a great scope for the money. The $600-$800 range is also easier for my wife to bear than the $1600-$1800 range of the Nightforce scope that I really want.
Just my .02

I Have several of the 6500 &4200 Bushnells.
I Love them. Get some kenton knobs If you want to customize it for your load.
They work great!!

Just my Humble opinion.

I have a 6x24x40mm 4200 elite and a 2.5x16x50mm 6500 elite Bushnell scopes. I think the glass in the 4200 is better. I just sold the scope you want. I regret buying that scope. Its optics were inferior to the 4200 . I'd suggest looking at Zeis Conquest. 6.5x20x50MM far Superior optics or search for a 6x24x40MM Bushnell elite 4200. Mine has been on many rifles for last 10 years, its a mighty fine scope.

Hmm thats weird. I wonder why the 4200 is better?

I was lookin for something with more zoom range. Maybe I will have to save my pennies for a nightforce or something.

I got a chance to look through a 6500 today. At 4.5 power is seemed pretty solid. At about 15 power is was pretty good. But when I got up to 30 power it was abit hard to hold steady and it wasnt the clearest day either. I dont know if I want to buy an ok $1000 scope or maybe I should spend the money and get a $2000 scope that would be awesome.

Have both the 4200 6-24 Tact & the 6500 4-30 Tact
4200 is on my 6BR...6500 is on my 260 AI...
Both Savage s/shot heavy Pac Nor set ups for p/dogs & target
I see no $200 diff between the two....I shoot them both at
16-18X...the 260 going out to 1K yd steel 10" target...dial it
back to 100 yds and it is right on every time...both scopes are
very repeatable & clear...past 24X the 6500 seems fuzzy to me
Money well spent on the 4200 Tact...but I think Bushnell
dropped the 4200 Tact.....Don't over look the Vortex PST 6-24
Got one of these coming very soon...read the reviews on it
before deciding on the Bushnell...... :D

DogBuster,

My first one got blury above 25X. In the end I returned it for a refund and waited several month and purchased the one I have now. It is very nice throughout the magnification range. It is better than any scope I have compared it to at the range.

I have 2 of them. One on a Kidd .22 for competition and the other on my 6.5x47.
Optics are bright and clear, focus down to 25 yards, and track great.

did you say it was hard to hold steady on 30 power? your steadiness is the same whether your using open sights or 100 power your just able to detect it much better on the 100 power. I shot a 9 power for a while then went to a leupold 45x45 comp. and at first it looked like an earth quake. ;D

I bought a Elite 6500 2.5-16x about a year ago. I struggled to see .22 cal bullet holes on paper at 100 yds set on the highest power, it just wouldn't focus in clear enough, so back it went for a refund. My Zeiss 3-9x50 clearly shows bullet holes at 100yds, I felt that it should have performed better than that.

I have a 6500 (4.5x30)and the first one got blurry above ~20x , I sent it back and the exchanged one is much better. I like it a lot.

I can see .22 caliber holes in the white at 300 yards with my 6500. newgun, you are suggesting a vx3. Which one has something like 2 1/2-16X or 4 1/2-30X?

I can just make out 20 cal holes at 300 yards in the white with my $450 Vortex.
