Rem. 700 Short action bolt.

Can this be bushed from .473 ( .308 ) to .378 ( .223 )??????

I`ve never given this any thought before, but it has entered my mind as a possibility............

I should add though, is going to run you close enough to a PTG bolt, my advise is to keep or sell your bolt and purchase a PTG with the proper bolt face. When you bush the face a Sako or m16 extractor must be used.

Generally it's about $130.00 to install a Sako with a bushing, unless it's going from small to large, then a bushing is not needed...

Yes, but add the resale value or just the value of having another bolt in a different bolt face style, allowing switch barrels to be done with the two different bolt faces...you get the idea. Since PTG started doing bolts, it's hard to monetarily justify putting much work into a bolt for caliber changes...IMHO.

Another option is to fit a Savage bolt head. The Rem bolt is easily modified to accommodate the bolt head. They come in all 4 sizes and are easily swapped on one bolt body. Plus, the Savage bolt head shroud can also be used and gives improved gas blocking if a case head fails.

But how much do you pay to have the PTG bolt installed in your action (in addition to the cost of the bolt)? Close to the cost of the Sako.

By the time you buy the bolt body, the handle, the extractor, the ejector, and have it timed and tigged your out a lot more than $130.00........

Is it as simple as boring the "ring extractor" groove out. Making an insert and silver soldering in place. Fitting a Sako extractor?

Soft solder, hard silver solder needs oxy which is too hot for the lugs. But yes, that's the process.
