YesRem. 700 Short action bolt.
Can this be bushed from .473 ( .308 ) to .378 ( .223 )??????
I`ve never given this any thought before, but it has entered my mind as a possibility............
I should add though, is going to run you close enough to a PTG bolt, my advise is to keep or sell your bolt and purchase a PTG with the proper bolt face. When you bush the face a Sako or m16 extractor must be used.Rem. 700 Short action bolt.

Yes, but add the resale value or just the value of having another bolt in a different bolt face style, allowing switch barrels to be done with the two different bolt faces...you get the idea. Since PTG started doing bolts, it's hard to monetarily justify putting much work into a bolt for caliber changes...IMHO.Generally it's about $130.00 to install a Sako with a bushing, unless it's going from small to large, then a bushing is not needed...

More than a new bolt out of my shop. There is a good deal of time in just converting the firing pin.Where (Cost Wise) does the Savage conversion compare ?

Soft solder, hard silver solder needs oxy which is too hot for the lugs. But yes, that's the process. Is it as simple as boring the "ring extractor" groove out. Making an insert and silver soldering in place. Fitting a Sako extractor?
Thats pretty much it as far as making it work if your using a standard bolt..Is it as simple as boring the "ring extractor" groove out. Making an insert and silver soldering in place. Fitting a Sako extractor?
