Bullet Suggestion for 6mmBR Goat Round

Hey Folks

Just finished a 6mm BR build that is primarily for PDogs. However I was so impressed with the performance that I thought I might consider a heavy round for Goats. I'm looking for ideas and suggestions.

Here's my rig

R700 action, Criterion barrel, .265" neck 1:10 twist, Jewell trigger, Sightron III 8-32x, Richard's prone laminated stock. I don't have the specs on the freebore, but it is shallow.

Current load:

Fowler 66gr FBHP, 32gr N133, no jump, CCI BR-4 3550fps

I'm thought something in 95-105gr range would work. I'm looking for enough energy to punch out to 600 yards.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Many thanks6mm Target.jpg

For pronghorn with my 6BR I've used the 95gr BIB FB (works in a 10 twist, exit wound photo below), the 95gr Berger VLD (allegedly requires a 9 twist), and the 85gr Barnes TSX. Now I use the TSX exclusively, to reduce the amount of bloodshot meat.

If you're planning to shoot at 600 yards the BIB has a substantially higher BC than the TSX. A 300-yard target with my 6BR/BIB 95 FB is shown below.

I have some 85gr Sierra and Speer spitzers. Anybody have load data for n133 or h4895? I could start with these. thanks BB

Don't over look nosler 95g HBT, it will be more than perfect for goats. It's my go to speed goat bullet in my 6x6.8 & 6x45 rigs. Accurate as all get out, drops em dead at 500+ yards.

To 2nd Toby Bradshaw on 'wasted meat' & Barnes bullets...

Just whacked a doe with my li' 6x45AI
80TTSX at a smidge over 2900 fps & they group excellent...

That Barnes did just want I wanted & expected. Two holes, and a very dead deer that dropped in sight. Can literally eat right to the hole... ;)

The 87HVLD might be a ballistically better, out toward your 600yd max, but if you can get the 80TTSX to shoot, its got enough energy put a couple holes in a goat at that range. A .331 G1 b.c., isn't terrible, and you could get the lighter bullet going fast enough to mitigate drop at distance...

Big fan of Berger bullets, but a Barnes T/TSX makes most any cartridge punch above their weight class...

Have fun & good hunting!!!

I'll second the 95 or 100 Nosler partition bullets. Without a 100 partition, you'll be at your very maximum range at 600 yards. The other option is a 95 berger HVLD. It's going to give you better ballistics and accuracy as well at 600. I don't use the 1000 lb energy rule on deer as a 10 mm kills deer quite easily at 50 yards with under 500 ft lbs. Accuracy is paramount and goats aren't huge nor tough skinned. If you can do on a goat what you do on paper, you'll have your goat. Too bad you weren't working with an 8-9 twist barrel. Options open up a bit more.
