Bullet seating??

I have asked a couple of friends this question and now I want to see what other folks think. "Are these bullets seated too deep in the necks"? Thinking about getting a barrel throated to the 80s and 87s with a dummy round.
The bullet on the left is a 55gr. Nosler. Too short to get a good bite in the neck and still get a jam.
The other 2 are 80gr. Nosler and a 87gr. V Max. Opinions please.

You're losing a lot of case capacity by seating long bullets that far in. To optimize the performance with the heavier bullets in 6br, you need all the capacity you can get. At the very shortest, I would seat them with the base of the bullet at the neck/shoulder junction for your dummy rounds. The 55's may not get to the lands but they are really best used in slow twist barrels anyway.

tightneck: If the powder charge is "not" to the base of the neck and will not be compressed, do you think the bullets are seated "too" deep?
Thinking of trying some flat base Bergers that won't extend into the case as much or not at all!

Dave": In your opinion,do you think a "flat base" bullet would work any better?
Just trying to decide how to get a new 6BR barrel throated.
Dummy rounds will get it the way "I" want it! Mike.

Considering the bullet weight you are looking at,about 90 grs), I would give strong consideration to the Berger 88 FBLD. I would seat it in a dummy to just above the neck/shoulder junction and have the rifle throated for this setup. I think the berger has the longest bearing surface of the three. This will allow the use of the Hornady and the Nosler that you have mentioned, but the berger will outshoot them both. It will give you the option of using any of them, whether varmint or match shooting. While I dont use any of these bullets in a BR, I did throat my 243AI for this combo and it has worked out great. I love that 88 LD Berger.

I ran into the same problem with my 6BR and Nosler 55's as well. I seated them to length and found I could yank the bullet out by hand...a neck resizing issue. So I simply seated them deeper. I'm going to have a hellofa jump but I think it will be ok. I had much the same problem when the gun was a .243 though they weren't this short. I haven't fired them yet but should be in the next week or two. I'll report back. -Rod-

Dave: "Better" meaning more neck contact on the bullet. My thgoughts were to send a dummy round to have the barrel throated to. Not sure about a reamer yet but the thought has crossed my mind!
As much as I like the 6BR, a reamer from PT&G might be in the near future.
I figure if I get the barrel throated to the longest bullet I plan to shoot,,in this rifle) then as the throat wears I'll still have room to set the bullets longer and still be able to get a good jam.
My Shilen 6BR has a long throat. Can't touch the lands with 55gr. Noslers but anything heavier will jam. The throat is getting longer with each shot so a shorter throat on the next barrel is in order.Won't be too long before 90s and up will be the only bullets that I can seat to my liking and still be deep enough in the neck. Bergers in 60gr. range seem to be a little longer than most so they might work better. Going to try different brands and see what works best. And have fun doing it too! Still undecided about the throat length but getting closer on a decision. And thanks "Guys" for all your input. Making my decision easier with each post! ;)
