Bullet pointing/trimming based on bullet length?

I pre-apologize for this question. I know opinions will vary and also, because I ask a lot of bullet measuring questions. Buuttttt. , in the recesses I’d my mind a thought hit me about tipping or trimming bullets. If the lengths are not the same, they will trim or tip differently? Does this give a whole new meaning to measuring the bullet? And which measurements would be important for this process?

Send me a PM with your phone number. It doesn't look like I can send you one. I can give you some of my experiences.

In my 6.5 x 47 I was shooting custom 136 gr bullets. Went to the new 142 factory tipped Sierra , took 2 minutes elevation off. I was pleasantly surprised. End up with better accuracy.

While not the ultimate in benchrest level sorting, I've settled on a simple OAL bullet sort then tipping the bullets in lots adjusting the tipping die to suit each lot. Doesn't take too long to do with an ordinary set of calipers.

I bought enough bullets to shoot out a barrel (2k all same lot) then sorted them into about 5-6 groups, roughly 2.5 thousandth length windows with a pile of short and long outliers at the ends. You'll get 3 large piles of bullets in the middle of the distribution then smaller piles at the edges. I use them all, just loading and shooting the lots separately. I don't tip too aggressively, don't want to see any change in BTO on the bullet from being squished in the tipping die.
