The photo represents a box of 500 Berger 140 grain Hybrid Targets sorted by Bullet OAL in .001" increments. The bullets in the lower right and lower left were outside the limits of 1.411 and 1.428. (ran out of compartments) The total spread was over .020". I contacted Berger and I mentioned their Bullet Reference Chart states the 140 grain Hybrids should have a Bullet OAL of 1.407" and the reply was the 1.407" value was for reference only, but the OAL's will be consistent in a lot. The tolerances that Berger focuses on are Bullet Base to Ogive, Bullet Weight, and Jacket thickness and they also claim to maintain consistent BC's. I measured the Ogive measurement and found out of a sample of 20, the ES was only .002". I weighed another 20 bullets and found them to be within .02 of a grain. So if Base to Ogive is consistent, weights are consistent, then the Ogive to Tip varies a great deal by bullet. Given that how can the BC's be consistent?
