bullet engraving

I just picked up a Walther KKJ sporter 22 rifle. After mounting a scope and sighting it in I noticed the bolt closing hard.
Today I opened the bolt and extracted a live round. The bullet is engraved by the riflings all the way from front to the case. Roughly .165 of the bullet is deeply marked with riflings.
No wonder it is closing hard! So my question is this normal? I have never seen a chamber engrave this much of a bullet. I tried several brands of ammo and they are all completely engraved and hard to close the bolt on. It is almost like I am trying to put a long rifle in a chamber for only longs.
The stamping on the barrel is hard to read but I believe it says Kal 22 l.f.B.
The serial number is 54195.
Can anyone tell me what it going on here?

Are you certain the chamber and bore are free of carbon? Exactly which brands of ammo did you try? Engraving marks shouldn't' extend past the bottom engraving band on a 40 grain bullet, IMO.

Might need to consult a gunsmith, or, at least take a close look in there with a bore scope. Rimfires SHOULD headspace off the rim, and the black box eley at least tells you that you used fairly consistent ammo. I have no hands-on experience with your exact rifle, but you should expect some bolt resistance to bolt closure....after all, the that is the whole point of the engraving bands. If your rifle is engraving the entire length of the 40 grain black box bullet down to the case mouth, then I agree with you that it might be excessive.

Is this a new rifle? Do you feel the same amount of closure resistance without a round in the chamber? Are you getting the same number of land engravings on the bullet as the number of lands in that Walther barrel? How did it shoot?

I tell you there is nothing wrong..Match chambers for lead bullet guns esp, 22 rimfire are cut short so the bullet is firmly in the rifling when chambered.LT

I have been offered the loan of a match reamer so I will give that a try and hopefully fix the problem. I already have several rifles with match chambers and they don't give me the problem that this one does.
Some of them do close a little hard on a cold day in competition but still manageable.
