Bullet at +4000 fps

1lessdog,

let me drop one of each on your head from the top of an 8 foot stepladder. When you come to, let us know what you learned from the experiment.

I built a 22-378Wby AI to test bullets many years ago. Very few bullets survived once I got past 4400fps.

RonS what will you be shooting at with the 40s and at what distance?
Many years ago I developed a load in my 20 Tactical improved that shot the ole 33V-Max at 4404 fps. When I had a coyote come in too close the bullets would “splash”on their fur and they would run off,I would shoot them when they would stop and look back at me.Once the coyote had covered the distance of about 200-250 yards the bullet had slowed enough to work properly and it killed them well.I have since switched to the 40 grain Berger loaded down to 4000fps and all the coyotes I have shot since were DRT.My point is,lighter bullets going super fast for the sake of the shear speed may not be what you want, heavier bullets with a better b.c. Will have more killing power out where the varmint is at distance.Your cartridge sounds like a lot of fun to shoot, just curious what you are hunting with it.Would love to see a picture with it next a .222 case.

Which bullet manufacture makes a .224 caliber bullet that can withstand +4000 fps? I am thinking maybe a 30 or 40 grain bullet. What is the best twist rate, 14 or 15? And what barrel Length? Thanks for your input...

Ron
With a 12t you can run 53gr Vmax over 4400fps from a 22 Creed or the like.

Maybe 4400, with a 300fps tailwind...o_O

Here is the load workup from my 6BR with zero Freebore using LT32. This is 20 jamb from touch. I went with 32.9. These are some impressive velocities from that little 6BR. Equal to my best old 22-250 loads for the same weight bullet. This was my first load workup with the 55 Varmageddon. I found those little bullets really liked to be jammed, and it shot good enough I figured if I were hunting I would not do much more development.
