Anybody have experience with 300 lapua Mag in a ackley version or even the 338 ackley? Looking to build a big loud gun on a custom action and 30"+ barrel length. I know brass is spendy but read that it last a long time. Any knowledge on the 338-408 ackley would be helpfull also? Also where to find stocks to fit these oversized actions?

I had a 338 Lapua Imp. built on a BAT action. 1.75"x 28 1/2" K&P bbl. Maxi-Tracker stock. 300gr. SMK/Rem 9 1/2Mag. primer/108.5grs. 24N41=3,165fps. The gunsmith used the reamer to chamber a piece of steel then turned it to look like a really long 12ga. shotgun shell. 30 gr.s Bullseye/fill remainder of case with cream of wheat/tamp in 1/2 sheet of toilet paper/drop the "oversize" steel shotgun shell brass forming "thingy" in a single bbl. shotgun & presto 98% fire formed brass with no bullets down the match bbl. It's really loud! I'll be glad to answer specifics if you have them.

What is the barrel life of .338 Lapua Improved?

why not try 30-338W cases are easy you just use 7rem mag and for the extra powder you put in the 300 you don't get that much more speed

or why not try something even bigger like a 20mm slap
