Building another rifle - What cartridge?

I would like to thank everybody for their comments and suggestions. The winner is 35 Whelen. This fills a caliber gap in my collection, will fit the rifle without any modifications, is a somewhat classic cartridge, and I found 100 rounds of factory ammo to get started with. Ordered a nice 24" fluted stainless steel heavy sporter barrel blank. I will send the action out to be hard chrome plated. Makes things very slick and rust proof. It will probably take close to a year to be finished.

Excellent choice!

Walt, I think you need professional help! First you should start off by shipping a few pre-64s up north so you'll have more room for new ones!! :)
I too have an itch for a new caliber! I've had lust in my heart (like Jimmy Carter said) for a 6mm Rem Ackley for some time. I think I'll remove the 6.5 284 Krieger (ex-target barrel!) from my trued M700 and go with one! What profile blank are you using? I want something heavy enough to be accurate, but light enough for this old geezer to carry it!
Steve

Got the action back from being hard chrome plated. Accurate Plating and Weaponry in Newville, AL di a wonderful job as usual. Have a fluted Bartlein barrel that will get spun up in the next week or so. Then on to the stock work.
