Building a rifle

Thinking about building my first varmint/predator rifle. I'd like to see 1/2 MOA accuracy and CLEAN kills on coyotes at 300 and 400 yards. My first thought was 243 Win, perhaps AI, in a Remington 700 with heavy Shilen barrel. But I've become interested in 6mm BR. What are your suggestions for round and rifle? I will reload, prefer a heavier rifle, maybe thumb hole type stock.

Check out the Savage 6BR, everyone that I've seen shoots really good, but my 6CM has edged them. Joe Hendricks developed this caliber.Check out his threads on here. Search joesr, all the info you need.

derherr65,

I use a 6 BR 12 tw Hall action gun, shooting 70gr Sierra Blitzkings. Works great on varmints out to 750 yds. You will not beat the Accuracy of a 6BR, you might come close with other 6MM. My next pick would be a 243AI, and go with a 10tw and shoot the 87 Vmax.

Suggest looking at 6x47L,Necked down 6.5x47L) for the following reasons.
1) 300-400fps faster than the 6br and within 100fps of 6AI or 243AI.
2) Inherently accurate cartridge
3) No fireforming cases, just neck size to 6mm
4) My rifle shoots .1-.2s at 100yds with 88gr bergers at 3400fps

Lots O fun...

6BRX.

70gr blitzkings around the 3400fps mark would piss off a hell of alot of things, my guess is coyotes included.
