Building a Custom Mauser

Local gun clubs and gun shops can refer you to competent gunsmiths in your area. Word of mouth is usually the best referral. Also, look for a local gunsmithing school if one is available in your area.

I think it is Warne. But when I sporterized my 98 they made a rear scope base that'd I'd not require grinding off the stripperclip lugs. My Smith had not seen this mount before but liked it pretty well after install(15yr ago).

Sorry so late replying… yes Tom has built several rifles for me (5 or 6) and has done quality work each time and has reached out to me whenever he had a question or a suggestion.

For the first fifteen years of my gunsmithing career, modifying, altering, and building on Mauser actions was a large part of my business (I contrasted this with the building of benchrest competition rifles). Welding bolt handles and drilling and tapping was a major source of income. Teaching others how such things should be done was another part of every day. By the mid-nineties, everyone had abandoned the Mauser and most 'smiths were concentrating on re-barreling Remington 700's. Things have changed in the gunsmithing landscape, for sure. WH

Thanks, I haven’t sent him an email yet, I wanted to hear from others first. I don’t feel comfortable sending hundreds of dollars of parts to a guy I haven’t heard much about.
