Build your own SEB Mini case

I saw a post in the Competition Forum that questioned the availability of a case for a SEB Mini, so I decided to publish my case design. I needed a case for my SEB Mini, so I built one out of ½ inch cherry plywood. I had enough cherry ply scraps that I did not need to buy any. The handles, hinge and stuff cost about $45.

Here is a a dropbox location with the CAD drawing of the parts.https://www.dropbox.com/s/rpsrc9v6vmmxnes/SEB Mini Case.dxf?dl=0

Here is a PDF of the case drawing.

Keep in mind, there is only the basic info to cut the parts, and the odd decimal dimensions were caused by the variance in plywood thickness. The box is glued together, with a few screws on the bottom to locate some pieces. After the glue dried, I sawed the case in half to create the top and bottom halves. I did this on a table saw, using a bunch of clamps and 1/8 spacers to keep the box square as I cut each side. I cut the box 4” from the bottom.

After gluing in the supports and spacer blocks, it was then stained and finished with urethane varnish.

I used 1/8 neoprene sheet as a protective covering for wherever the mini touched the box. The mini is held down by the spacer in the lid, and the side movement is limited by the corner blocks which touch the lower cross rail of the Mini head. The mariner wheel can be turned to lock it in place.

Some of the pictures show the first version, where I had the standard mini bag and ears. I switched to a Blake Barrel 3 piece bag assembly. This was to accommodate both my 3” wide fore ends and narrower fore ends on my hunting rifles.

Spring clips to hold the joystick and the front stop and the bottom feet are from the hardware store.

I could only post 5 pics, so I will show the bottom in the next post
