Budget/practice loads for 6BR

Curious if anyone has a cheap budget load for 1:8 barrel they use for practice. As much as I shoot for highpower, the Berger 105s get pricey quick. I don’t think anything smaller than a 70 will work, plus feeding issues from the magazine.

Hornady 105 HPBT Match bullets and the Barnes 105 Match Burner's are $0.22 or less when you buy in bulk sizes.

If Berger’s were as cheap and available here in Australia as you guys get them then that’s all I would use!!

When you can get them the 105’s are running $0.70each now!!

They are still all I bother shooting practice or comp.

Hornady HPBT Match is $0.20ea and will be closer to the Bergers than a varmint bullet so better to practice with.

Just a thought, why would you practice with a load and bullet that you are not going to using in competition? Wouldn't that just be shooting for giggles?

Speer 70 TNT bulk pack shoots nearly as good as custom bullets.

Sierra 80 blitz goes on sale cheap shoots real tight.

70 Varmegeddons shoot fantastic and are super cheap.

I practice a lot on reduced ranges. In XTC, a 105 is really only needed at 600 for the ballistic advantage. In comp, I would have no problem using a 70 gr in offhand at 200 yds. I know a lot of guys shoot 105 across just as an easy button, I may go that route, just researching options.

Do you have to sort the tnt? I’ve had good luck with the .308 125 grain tnt but need to sort them. A lot have defects. May have just been the batch I had. As for a cheaper load. I had good luck with the 87 grain hornady.

Not to change the subject, but what rifle are you using? Eliseo? The 6BR seems like an ideal round for XTC, aside from potential feeding / extraction issues. Just curious what your experience has been.

Yes, Eliseo UMRS. I went with teh 6BR as I too believe it will be the ideal round for XTC and I can also use said rifle to try out PRS as well.
I have only shot it a couple of times, loaded some 70 Nosler varmints. I have yest to shoot xtc with it, focusing on service rifle at the moment and will switch over to Eliseo next season. I am just trying to plan ahead and get it set up. Setting the rifle up for each position is going to be the biggest struggle.

I've shot a lot of 3/8 inch groups right out of the box. Not really what I would call fliers at all. Shoots very close to berger's.

Not really.
I doubt I’ll go one load XTC anyway as I prefer a lighter faster bullet at 200, so at best I’ll have two loads 200 and 300/600

"Perfect Practice Makes Perfect".......That was drummed into my grey matter when I was a kid shooting bow. I practice using what I will compete with. If you are worrying about chewing through your components try dry firing 4 times then shooting 1. This helps with time on the trigger and positional practice and keeps the heat out of the barrel so you don't have to do as much time waiting for it to cool & slows down the fire cracking process......
