Budget build

I had a 721 action that started life as a .300 H&H that I had bedded, refinished and rechambered to .300 H&H Ackley. It never shot well so I purchased a 7MM RSAUM take-off barrel and screwed on it. That shot better but not great and I already had two in that caliber so I did a complete makeover! Here's the list!

PTG one piece fluted standard bolt-faced bolt with a mini 16 extractor and PTG firing pin assembly and tactical knob
Jewel bottom safety trigger assembly
Choate Tactical stock with adjustable butt and solid cheek riser, Hydro Dipped in Rattlesnake pattern
28" 8tw Criterion Remage barrel chambered in .243 AI
PTG .300 SS recoil lug
EGW 20 MOA HD steel Picatinny rail
Burris Signature Zee rings
NF 12-42X 2DD reticle presently riding on top

With only 35 rounds down the tube it already has shown great promise(<1/2MOA@200yds.) with the 105 grain A-Max in the fire-forming loads and the five formed loads I shot. It is destined for the Chuck "Killing Fields"!

Sweet. Welcome to the "Brotherhood of the Barrel Nut". ;) She is a 1000 yard chuck buster for sure.
What contour is the barrel? Looks to be a bench rifle and a little too heavy to be a 'carry' rifle. Did you set headspace yourself?

Bill. It's a Full Bull and I won't be walking too far with it! Yes I set the headspace, I have the gages from my Savage build. According to my measurements they are both head-spaced the same and both Criterion chambers. There is .050" greater free-bore in this one as it is what they call their match chamber.

That is the same barrel I have on my Savage 12BVSS that is for sale - the Criterion Bull 28" 8 twist with the 243AI Match chamber.
Like I said, you'll have no trouble nailing chucks at 1000 yards with that rig. Finding a farm with that distance is the problem. ;)
Bring it over to my place this summer and I'll get you a 1000 yard shot. :)

We have family and friends in OH. I could drop her off at her parents in Steubinville and head out to meet you! Give me a good excuse not to spend time there, hmmmm. ;D
I am looking at Google Earth and found a 650-700 yard shot but depends on the my elevation if I can see that far. I saw six live and as many dead on the Turnpike from Ephrata to Valley Forge on Saturday!

My last budget build was a 721, (Holland?) bolt handle, Shilen barrel in 6AI. I put it in a hunk of firewood from Richard's. It's pretty cool to give an old rifle new life.

I'm starting to get the itch to bust some chucks. I only made it out 5-6 times last summer. It's still pretty cold up here in NWPA.

civil82, you made that chunk of firewood look pretty good. You must not live too far from Preacher.

MrM, sending you a PM.

Those are Medium and there isn't much clearance, <1/8". Remember the EGW base isn't real low and that helps the cause. I had to use the low Choate riser as the high didn't allow my to get down low enough. I am very pleased with the fit.

I'm building a 6mmBR right now. I have a 28" barrel that is 1.250" full length and have been looking at the EGW 20* standard and wondered if the med. rings would be enough. I will start out using a Choate varmint stock until can get a BR stock. I may end up using a 28" barrel that is 1.250" for 5" then taper to .940" at the muzzle. Thanks for the info.
