broughton or Bartlein

Am looking to build a 6.5x47 Lapua with either a broughton or Bartlein barrel....what do you guys recommend would be the better choice?
thanks

Both are great barrels. I doubt you'll hear much bad on either. Broughton's lead time is usually better than most. --Mike Ezell

Kinda depends on whether you prefer cut or button rifled barrels. Bartlein's computerized rifling machines give them very precise control over twist rate, and allow you to order whatever rate you want. Other than that, I doubt you're going to find anyone who's got much negative to say about either make.

Its been my experience that ALL Premium Barrels are just that.
PREMIUM BARRELS.........You are paying for somebodys time, experience and expertise.

I went down to Bartlein last week to pick up my 6.5 barrel. Had a good talk and tour with Frank and Tracey,sp) very nice guys.. Now just the wait to get the barrel on the gun and get it to the range.

Buy both, same everything for both barrels, have the same smith with the same reamer do both barrels. Report back to us what you found.

Broughton are button rifled and Bartlein are SP cut. In terms of accuracy, both make fantastic barrels and both have made the odd dud.

I prefer cut rifled barrels myself for longevity and the reduced potential for latent stress issues

Kreiger makes a fine barrel, but I don't judge quality by how long it takes to get something. Really, I don't think there is any good excuse for the long lead times on barrels. If a top barrel maker would make up a 90 day supply of 6mm 14twist heavy and light varmint barrels and the same for 30 cal 17 twist hv's, I think they would sell like crazy! Then of course they would have to make more than their previous 90 day supply.

Well they build them in 2 facilities as fast as they can and I like to win so that is why I use Krieger plus the folks at Bartlien have customer service and quality issues.

Tracy and Frank at Bartlein have always been great to me, I can't say anything bad about the customer service at Bartlein. I have only ordered one barrel from Kreiger and they lost the order twice, I'll not order another Kreiger. As far as Bartlein or Broughton, both top notch, I'd order the Bartlein.
Thanks
Chris

From reading about Bartlein...Both guys worked at Krieger...so they produce at least a similar product,I would think). I have just sent my barreled action to Bartlein to be transformed and have one of their barrels installed...I have to say that my emails and phone conversations with Frank have been very satisfactory and curteous. This will be my first cut rifle barrel...my other is a Lilja....which is button rifled and stress relieved...and has been an absolutley flawless barrel.

I would think either company would provide an excellent product!! Right now...my money is on Bartlein.

Good Luck,

Wayne

I've had exactly one Krieger that caused problems,a 6.5-twist 223 spacegun barrel that blew up bullets), and they replaced it with a ready-to-install,chambered, contoured, gas port drilled, barrel extension installed) 7.7-twist barrel free of charge. I usually have barrels on order from both Krieger & Bartlein, and try to keep a good number of 6mm blanks in stock. Both have given great service, very reasonable delivery times, and - best of all - great barrels.

OTOH, I've chambered only two Broughton barrels, and though both gave excellent accuracy, I simply prefer cut rifled barrels. If Tim North made single point cut rifled barrels, I'd probably have several on order from him as well.

SlowpokeRodriguez, would you care to comment on the "customer service and quality issues" Bartlein has? And do everybody a favor and speak only of first hand dealings between you and them that way for those of us that are new to this game we get facts that we can learn something from

Thanks
Rick

I'll second that request. Also Id like to know how was the company's attitude toward your problems and what effort was made on they're part to rectify them? EVERY product maker has issues. I judge them by what they do to make them right.

I'll be the third to request first hand info. I just talked to Frank this afternoon about my project. I've had several emails back and forth as well. I've had nothing but prompt, curteous and productive discussions with the folks at Bartlein. I can't wait to try out their wares.

Like others have said....I think you'll find people who feel they've had a bad experience from most outfits...what matters is the customer service and what was done to rectify the situation....on both ends of the deal.

Funny,

I have a Bartlein that shoots lights out in 6.5x55 and smithed by a very reputable smith Alan Warner.

Bob Boch has a 6.5x.284 and shot the new F-class agg record and his smith is also Alan Warner amd ooh the barrel is a Bartlien.

hummm.....

I have heard nothing but good reports.
