6.5x55 experts

New build, narrowed cal done to 6.5x47 or 6.5x55

So looking for info on standard 6.5x55, reamers etc

Main concern is brass flow, neck reaming not my thing

So is it really an issue or can it be eliminated with min sized reamer

Luv da swede, i have but rarely shoot #number matching M41B

Barrel will be 30" broughton already ordered, but if brass flow is an issue then i will just go with 6.5x47

Fire forming brass is also something that does not interest me
Help me out guys
TIA

I've got a 30" 6.5x55 bbl. for my Nesika LR prone rifle, and have had excellent results with it at 1000yds. I used primarily N160 & Data 86 (no longer available) with Lapua 139s & S142MKs in both R-P & Lapua cases. There did not appear to be any strain on rifle or brass when the 142s were loaded to a bit over 2900fps. Accuracy was excellent, recoil was mild, and at approx. 1200rds., the barrel looks like it's still got a lot of life left.

I didn't turn necks, so wasn't unduly concerned with donuts. However, even though care was taken not to bump shoulders back any more than needed for easy chambering/bolt closing, I wound up trimming cases every couple of firings. That's just the price of admission when case design features a fair amount of case body taper.

I've since bought a 6.5x55 AI reamer, but would assume barrel life isn't going to be much better than a 6.5x284. Haven't shot the Ackley a lot, but it appears that all I'm really gaining is another 60-70fps, and a case that will probably never need trimmed.

Right now, the two 6.5x55AI bbls. I've done are sitting in the safe while I'm shooting four different 6.5x47s. Still got plenty to learn about the smaller 6.5, but like what I've seen so far.

Dave Kiff at PTG is a great help concerning reamers,I bit the bullet when I built my swede and bought a match reamer from him,no turn neck, minimum throat,(specifically sized for 139-142 projectiles).Brass doesnt really seem to grow on me,probably because i'm only pushing them out at 2750 and I am using Lapua,in addition to the minimum chamber size. I use H4831SC,BR-2 or WLR primers, barrel is a Bartlien 5R 1 in 8.5 27inches long.Post a pic if you get a chance. Regards, Jim

I have the 6.5X55 in a Model 70 Win., 28" Krieger barrel, used for long range/tactical, 48 grs. of H 4831 behind a Lapua 139 gr. Scenar gives 2850 fps. It is my favorite rifle, very forgiving cartridge, inherently accurate. I would consider the 6.5X47 with 120/130 gr. bullets, but the 140's are a better fit for the 6.5X55.
