I purchase a broughton barrel cal. .284 I am not sure wether to chamber for the win. .284 or Rem 7mm mag. I am looking for range, acurracy,
need advice

What is your intended purpose, and what type of rifle will you be putting it on?

For target shooting only, I am a bit partial to the straight .284 Win.

Just built a 7mm Remington Magnum on a 700 action with a Broughton 5C 1 in 9 twist and I could ask for anything better. I shoots under 1/2' at a 100 yards and 3' or under at 600yards.

The 284 Winchester could be an excellent choice at those distances; however, you would need to consider over-all cartridge length if you are going to load through a magazine. The standard length for the 284 Win is 2.800 inches while target shooters using the 180gr bullets seat them out to something around 3.200 inches. The maximum OAL that will fit in the Short Action magazines I have seen is much less, mostly around 2.950 inches. So you might need to build on a long action if you want to use heavy bullets at the velocities target shooters are getting.

I have a 284 F-class rifle that just hammers, I have no problem recommending this cartridge. If I ever have a hunting rifle built it will be a 284. The big question is if you are planning to load all of your ammo or buy it. If you load your own then the 284 is an excellent choice, but if you plan on buying your ammo then you will have a lot more choices and an easier time finding ammo with the 7mm Rem.

Not sure what you are hunting but if larger than deer better check retained energy @ longest range you expect to try and kill something.

I vote for the straight .284 Winchester also...
I shoot a 16' XP-100 chambered for it, and my new soon to be built 32 inch Brux will also be a straight .284 Winchester set up for the 162 Amax-168 Bergers......
My only other choice would be for a 7MM SAUM...... just never cared for the belts...

Might depend on your action and bolt face for your first consideration before you pick a cartridge.
