Broken Jewell Trigger

I have a Pierce action Eliseo tube gun in 6br with Jewell benchrest trigger. I have about 1000 rounds through in without previous problems.

Recently I broke the trigger. I didn't know what caused this failure. Dies have been the same, load is on the hot side. Primer, brass and bullet are the same, CCI 450's, lapua brass and 105 Lapua's. I recently changed to IMR 8208 XBR powder but have successfully shot about 300 rounds with the IMR load. Primer on round when trigger broke was not pierced, no brass flow, easy extraction.

I thought this was just some anomaly since I had not had problems with the same variables. I should add I had previously tried wolf SRM primers and could not get them to fire in the Eliseo, I think the firing pin spring is weaker than normal. I've had variable success with the wolf primers, some of my rifles work with them, some do not. I think it is related to the strength of the firing pin spring strike.

Dropped in a new Jewell benchrest trigger, it broke on the first shot. Primer was not pierced, no brass flow, easy extraction.

Any ideas or a fix?

As an aside if you haven't tried IMR 8208 XBR in your 6 BR you should. It's only up to 40 degrees here so I don't have any experience with it a warmer temperatures but so far it's impressive.

I got almost 400 rounds out of a new 6Dasher when my new Jewell trigger broke. No pierced primers here as well.
I would just send it back and have them fix it.It takes a couple weeks and costs $45 but you also need to keep on them by phone.

If your trigger was new why the $45 charge? I sent mine back broke within the first year with my receipt and the repair was free. Did I get lucky?

:o I also had a trigger problem with my eliseo rifle .
My load was way too hot .There was no extraction issues. I talked to jewell and they got me through it .
Good Luck

The problem I had with the triggers in the Eliseo was they would no longer cock the bolt. When I had pierced primers in the past the triggers acted this way and a piece had broken off the sear. I didn't take the triggers apart this time and examine them. I assumed it was the same even though the primers were not pierced this time.

I was wrong.

I took the triggers apart today and could not see any problem, the sear was not broken.

I've been able to readjust the trigger to cock and fire the rifle. I've never had a Jewell come out of adjustment before these events and did not consider that was the problem. I should have examined the trigger earlier.

I had a helpful forum member call me with results of a similar problem. He relates that Jewell told him that his loads were too hot and damaged the spring inside the trigger. He reduced his loads and has not had the problem since that time. In looking at the spring today I couldn't see any problem, unless it was broken I don't think I would ever notice a problem.

It's rainy here today so I don't think I'll try to shoot. It may be next week before I get out again but I'll let you know the outcome.

I feel a little silly but I've had many Jewell triggers and this is the first time I've had this problem.

I love their triggers, but their customer service SUCKS! I had one break on a .204 varmint rifle in Montana on shot # 14. A piece just stress fractured. Gun put together by Kampfeld's. You could see the fracture plainly. The load was not hot by any means.

Sent it back to Jewell and got the " it'll be $45.00 to fix". Not on a trigger with just 14 pulls on it. We went round & round over the phone on it. The "voice" said my load was too hot. BS, he didn't even know what my load was. Finally, they agreed to fix it for free ( but postage was on my dime ).

They need to take a cue from Leupold or RCBS about customer service.
