Broken case neck

I must have turned my case neck a little too thin at the neck of one case and pulled back on the bolt and the case neck was stuck in the chamber. Buying a broken shell extractor is caliber specific and don't see a 6PPC anywhere. I looked on youtube and some guys were using epoxy to fill and let cure in the case then tap it out later. Anyone have any other suggestions. This was my fire form load and am completely new to this. Up until then they were the best groups I had ever shot with any rifle in my life so I'm very excited about this rifle. Thanks

Well I ended up detaching another neck in the chamber, or so I thought. Case came out with the body and no neck but when I went to remove the neck with my newley found tool... it wasn't there. Could it have blown out the muzzle??? Then a few others broke off in the bushing upon sizing. The next 50 I prepped I haven't had a problems with so I learned my lessons well.

It almost certainly when down the bore with the bullet. Seen it before. Turning your necks a little too far down into the shoulder is one cause. Turning them too thin is another. Too long a neck + aggressive crimping getting up into the leade, seen that too. If you're neck turning, you're probably being a bit aggressive about it. Might back that off a little but without knowing all kinds of measurements about your chamber, dies, bushings, brass, etc... I can't be much more helpful. Suffice it to say, I'd bet 10 bucks that the mystery neck left your gun from the muzzle end.

So far no more problems with cases coming apart. I will be less aggressive with my turning. Is it proper to bump the shoulder back a bit till it chambers if it won't after neck turning?

It's proper if case base to shoulder datum is the cause of the inability to chamber. Grab a lighter or candle and smoke blacken a case, stuff it in there and try to close the bolt. Then extract the case. The shiny part is where it touches. Where it touches is where you need to make a tiny bit of clearance.

Well the 20 gauge bore brush is no longer slicker than snot. This case neck is stuck good. It's soaked in kroil for hours and still no go. Any other ideas please?

I had necks stay in the chamber firing an M16A1. The next round loaded into the neck still in the chamber.

When the round was extracted, the neck came with it.

Use a dummy round for safety, if you try this method.

^^^ This. I've used a loaded round in a pinch. There's a fine line between ramming the new shell in hard enough to swedge the old neck on securely enough to pull it out and ramming it deeper in. If it's up in the lead or got into the lands, it might be time to get to a gunsmith. I imagine if you could get a tight fitting lead slug started at the muzzle end and pushed down the bore it'd probably push that neck out even if it got up into the lands. That's kinda last ditch-y though. Maybe could get just the right size and shape of dental tool down there and tug it out. I wouldn't want to, they're super hard and sharp.

I’ve got a bore scope I’ll run down it and see what it’s disposition is. Then I’ll have a better idea what’s actually going on. Ugh. It never ends. I put together an ar-10 which has proven to be a real PITA. Long story short I’ve tried 7-8 powders and no joy. Beginning to think there is a burr at the crown causing the odd flyer to leak out of the group by an inch or two. The fun never ends.

I’ve used a 3/16” dia. 36” long brass rod (hobby shop, usually) as a drift, run in from the muzzle to dislodge case neck I’ve had detach from the case body. Make sure the end you insert is really square, without burrs.

Sometimes you may have to file a very slight angle onto the end, so one side’s higher than the other. This gives you a bit of a tooth that might help catch the forward end of the neck that got where you don’t want it to be.

ruined my best 40x 22-250 barrel when a neck went part way down barrel, and next bullet took it and some rifeling with it. after you get that one out, you gotta get a handle on the brass prep. Time to sit down with an experienced PPC loader and work together on case prep. Hit a match or two and ask for help. Take your stuff with you, let someone show you.

Snert, no matches where I live so this is it for knowledge. I’ve decided to pull the bullets and scrap them. I’ve learned my lesson with those cases so am going to move on from that experience. I’ve not had any problems with the second 50 cases I’ve turned.
