Breech Face Nick

I got a new M700 5r milspec recently. I actually noticed while unloading after a hunt the case of the cartridge was scratched. While looking for the problem I noticed a small nick/dent on the breech face of the barrel. The first few times I cleaned it I didn't have my bore guide yet (I was extremely careful) and didn't notice it then. Is it possible that dry firing could have caused it? Is my rifle accuracy ruined? I'm pretty sick about it. How is someting like this fixed? Additionally, I tried to recreate the scratch and it didn't happen. Maybe the burr got smoothed?

Scratches on cases is pretty normal to a point. If you have a burr at the mouth of your barrel one can polish it off with a bit of oiled 220 grit sand paper on a piece of doweling and a drill. Just don't over do it, seconds at a time and inspect often.

If the nick isnt from you ,why dont you call remington and ask them to replace the barrel.

Thanks for the replies. It wasn't there when I bought the rifle so I assume it was me. I'm more upset at myself but I'll get over it. The reason I asked about dry firing was I had found some articles about the same issue except they were rimfire rifles. I assume a centerfire can't do that? As long as the bolt face holds the cartidge square I should be ok for accuracy. Correct? I haven't had a chance to get out and shoot.
