brass prep question for neck lubing ??

Is it necessary to lube the outside of the neck when resizing with a wilson bushing ?

I noticed that most manuals specify not to get any lube on the shoulder, just to roll the brass across the pad lightly. This is what I do, but am I overstressing the neck by running the neck into the bushing with no lube ? Thanks !

edduief--I believe that if you are using a TiNi bushing you can get by without any lube. Bushings made from other materials will probably require lube.

Eddief,
I use Wilson dies also and lube the outside of the neck with a very small amount of Imperial Sizing Die Wax.

Lubing never hurts. Never heard of not getting lube on the shoulder. It shouldn't hurt unless you get a big buiildup that wrinkles the shoulder. I unually take my dies apart and clean with brake cleaner and Q-tips before using. Once I did get shoulder wrinkles from a lube buildup.

Wow a 14 year old thread...

That may be a record’
FWIW
I only lube the case body and not very much, none on the bushing

As the old saying goes , Less is more . I use the Imperial , also . A light touch in the can , and starting at the base of the case , rotating the case as I go towards the neck . Over the shoulder and up the neck . If the neck feels "Dry" , I just spin it again to drag a little more up to the neck . My rule of thumb is : If I can see fingerprint lines of lube on the case , I'm using to much .

As far as old posts go ; this info may be "Old Hat" to guys who have been shooting for decades , and common knowledge , but there is a new generation of shooters coming into our sport who don't know this "Common knowledge" info , and it really is up to all of us to , Pay it Forward . I think all of the responders did a great job answering the OP's inquiry to solve the issue . We were all Newbies at some point .

You only have to have one case stuck in your sizing die . I lube the inside of the necks because I full size every time with the expander ball , I'm not neck turning my brass but size to .001 - .002 no more or less . If I feel any resistance I add more die , I use a Q tip for the inside of the necks and add the lube to the body and neck by hand . Works well for me runout is average .001 the most . I wet tumble to remove lube .

...your fingers with sizing wax on them, spin them on the neck without touching the shoulder. Done. Whatever you do, it's not necessary to lube the entire neck. There's enough on there already, less is more.
