Brass is shrinking after annealing...

I described my annealing process and equipment used in the original post. This is on once fired brass that was annealed by the manufacture, so it should not be over-worked and hardened.

I know I have a "movement issue" after annealing and further movement after FL resizing and will keep an eye on it going forward.

I know the size of a human hair. I know .003" can be insignificant to a lot of things, but to precision and machining it is not so insignificant. I also know .006" additional movement means I'm now .009" - .010" from the fire formed size and that's very significant. Dimensions do matter, if they didn't we would not measure them and try to control them. We measure things to know where they are and to control as many variables that we can.

I was simply asking if anyone else has seen the movement that I am seeing, it's really that simple. If you don't see movement after annealing and after FL resizing that's great, but I am experiencing it and will have to compensate for it going forward.

I appreciate everyones input.

Before I got more consistent with my case lubing, my shoulders were all over the place. If I set my die using a few cases that had lighter amounts of Imperial on them, then applied more as I went along, they would size shorter and yes, as much as ,006. Going on feel with coaxial press, the more heavily lubed cases went through the sizing with less force. When I say more lube versus less, I'm not talking about gobbing it on. It got to the point where I measured every single case after sizing to see which ones I had to set aside. I also found that if I tumbled my cases to shine them and the annealing patina up, this problem went down significantly. Now, I tumble annealed cases before and after sizing, along with paying more attention to the amount of imperial wax I put on them. Problem solved. I'm not saying that this is the same issue that you are experiencing, but worth considering. FWIW, I induction anneal and mostly use thick walled Peterson brass as opposed to thinner walled brass. Not sure where ADG falls in thickness as I've never tried that brand.

Good Luck,

Hoot

I anneal fired brass before I do anything else to it.
Hey do ya remember the guy that annealed after every post ?
My once fired brass is no where near consistent enough to evaluate growth beyond monitoring

Well she generally shoots with me (better than me on most days), so I do give her a kiss immediately after shooting and she beats me. Lol.
