Brake on light contour barrel

I have a guy that wants a lightweight rifle, doesn't want carbon, so I was planning to go with a #4 fluted Hart barrel, and they can oversize the muzzle to about .680, basically making a #4.5 count out fluted should be in the 3.3 lbs neighborhood.

Its going to be a 300 RUM, would like to do 5/8-24 for the brake but not really left with much of a shoulder there even with a taper on the back of the brake. Not a fan of people doing 1/2-28s on big 30's.

Anyone make a good 9/16-24 brake ether radial or 3 port i could contour if needed.

Open to any other suggestions. I asked about flaring the muzzle end so I could blend back and they weren't keen on the idea.

Check out muzzle brakes N more. Super cheap and every bit as good as the big name big dollar brakes. I’d definitely do a minimum of 9/16-24 for 30 cal.

I have this one that I can part with. 9/16 x 32 tpi.
Stainless steel 2" long .812 diameter and can be turned down at a taper to blend into the barrel diameter.
$110 to your door.

This barrel is 450 Alaskan caliber, the customer wanted light with a brake.
It tapers to a minimum diameter then larger to have enough material for threads and shoulder.
We have a tracer lathe. Was tapered conventionally then pattern turned around to do the muzzle end.
Not final polished.

Check out Muzzle Brakes and More. I have installed quite a few on light contour barrels with a 9/16×24 thread, and they work very well. They are priced decent also. The way that the ports are cut keeps the barrel rise down.

I’ve often wondered why there isn’t more hunting rifles built like that. Bartlein once told me they would make a standard sporter contour and leave the muzzle end fat.
