Boy am I an idiot

While I spend a lot of time at the range in practice sessions, I'm primarily a hunter. I learned long time ago to seat the bullets no closer that .010" to the lands to allow for variations in bullet ogive even for my precise varmint / predator reloads. I've never found it necessary to seat closer to achieve precise reloads. Some of my rifle even prefer more jump. Functionality is just as important as a precision for a hunting rifle / reload.

Like one of the other poster said, you don't need a tack driver for Elk.

On an expensive hunt it's also best to verify that your reloads will chamber and extract without difficulty before you depart.

Thanks and I do agree and as I mentioned prior, I will start all new load with a .010 jump.
We this batch finding a setting depth I went through quite a few rounds and had zero issues at all, can’t say how many times but I’m sure I had to extract a few unfired rounds and guessing I got lucky
For the hell of it earlier today I loaded and unloaded that same cartridge multiple times to see if I’m fact it did set that bullet back to OTL, my NT is light .001.
After ten times with the same round, that bullet did not budge? I thought for sure it was being pushed back
Anyway now I have all my numbers correct, did a h20 test and ran some data on QL and I have a lot of room to play!!
This keeps me active during our “time out”

enjoy the weekend!!

I elk hunt every year with bullets seating deep into the rifling. If thats where a rifle shoots best thats what I do and its just up to me to deal with it accordingly. Dont chamber one until your going to shoot, and if it doesnt pan out, shoot it in the dirt if your worried about pulling it.

Butte sink,
I re read this thread one thing you might want to worry about and check is under heavy recoil of that rifle and only .001 nt you may shove the bullets that are in the magazine back in the case further or out and you may be fine but you might try it.

“To each their own”
If your comfortable going that way Awesome
Personally for me I’m more comfortable not having to worry about that and will focus more on the hunt

Thanks Wayne

So far so good, no issues
Right now my powder weight is at 90.9 and nowhere near max but I’m real happy with velo, very low es and sub moa.
For the hell of it, I’m going to ramp up near max and then bump down and start a new test just to see the out come.
I’ll defiantly keep that in mind if I do end up going up in charge

thanks

If you already had you mind made up then why did you ask the question?

Not in anyway trying to start a pissing match with you,
The original questions I asked is if anyone ever had any issue having a bullet jammed dip into the riffling, and really appreciate all replying back, that’s it
If your comfortable and have no issues that’s great!! I respect that but it doesn’t mean I need to agree with you, right?

In no way do I expect you to agree with me. I just dont understand asking a question you already have your mind made up on.

You aren't really running hot with that load for a RUM but you would do better to run the 215 hybrid as you will get higher speeds with its shorter bearing surface and it has a better BC so it's win-win.
