Borescopes, Every Good Competative shooter must have one......

Many do not want to clean, or to know that they have to clean. Best to buy a new gun or grab another when one becomes no fun.

I literally retired one of my best barrels because it stopped impressing me. It was just dirty.

Oh, and it took about 3 hours of WORK to clean it too.

Best to learn how to clean to keep the carbon and copper from layering. But I'm starting to believe that if you clean, because it's not shooting THEN CLEAN IT. Right down to the steel.

In addition to having a boroscope they should not waste their time with a tuner. Just a gadget to confuse you.
The same could be said of a borescope if one doesn't' know how to assign meaning to the observations. Exactly how much firecracking is a concern when the targets show no degradation?

Nothing is a concern as long as the targets are good. No borescope required. When the targets degrade and you can see something different in the horoscope, now you have acquired meaning. However the original meaning of this thread was as a joke, guess you didn't get it.

OK...so.....I am hearing the name "teslong" and would like to pick one up. BUT...I see no less than ELEVTYSEVEN different choices on Amazon. Could someone, for the love of GOD, please narrow it down to a more manageable number to choose from with BBL inspection being the main purpose.

Thanks,
Tod

You have two basic scope choices......40" flexible shaft or a 21" rigid shaft. Choose one for a smart phone, desktop, WiFi, and two flexible's come with a hand held monitor screen.

A WiFi rigid scope will be coming out soon. I am told the 21" rigid may be dropped in favor of a 24" long rigid scope. They are kicking around the idea of a 16"or 18" version rigid as well.

Why not make a WiFi handle and the different size probes could be screwed on. That way people can get different probes and just swap them out for each task.

Does anyone have the one with the hand held monitor? I'm curious if the view is as good as what I see here from the phone and computer models. Don't have a smart phone to hook up to, and can't bring the computer to the gun room. The pictures shown here are miles ahead of the view I get with the Lyman borescope.

Buy a cheap android tablet to use. I bought a $40 refurb Kindle Fire but that took a little fiddling to get the ap from the Google Store. So a native android would be the easiest.

Yeah, I read up on the Teslong and in Canada they're just under $70. I ordered one last Wed, along with some BoreTech Carbon remover. Expect to see it Monday or Tues (Not Prime). I had read threads on that also and after cleaning one 'carbon ring' in a 22 for an hour or so I decided the BT was a good investment. Had to get 16oz for $42  My SPS had lots of copper fouling and I filled the bore with Hoppes Copper cleaner and let it set a couple days - Clean as could be  The Teslong will let me keep an eye on all my rifles at .20 and over.

For many years I mistakenly believed I could clean a rifle barrel and was not afraid to tell people that. Have all the well regarded cleaning supplies and equipment. When Wipe Out came out, I did extensive cleanings to all my barrels. Bought a Lyman bore cam and cleaned more. The Teslong scope and a was another leap. Found some small things I was missing. Barrels I have plans to replace will get another try when the weather breaks. Not going to make wild claims about the life changing experience of owning a bore scope. Will say this; Shooting is my hobby, and being the best I can be, is my goal. Bore scopes are just another rock to look under and if my barrel is cleaned to the best of my ability, I am happy. At the price point I believe they are a good investment.

True story.

Have one outstanding 6mmBR barrel. It has delivered exceptional accuracy for about 800 rounds with virtually no brushing. I ran a Hawkeye down it and saw dark streaks in the grooves despite my regular Wipe-Out regimen. I told a good friend "Well I guess it's time for the bronze brushes and JB". He replied "why don't you shoot it first". We took it out, and with him behind the trigger it shot a 0.178" for four shots at 100 yards. Needless to say, the JB stayed in the jar.

Let PERFORMANCE be the guide when it comes to cleaning... as long as you are not seeing accuracy degradation during your match string of fire.

That's the rub, Boss. If I don't have a custom built rifle, and don't have the best equipment and skills in reloading, or shooting, how do I know where I'm falling down when I can put 5 into one target under .2 moa, then 5 into the next at .5 moa? Or three into a one-hole group, with two fliers taking it out to a moa?

For we who are not competitors, can't afford the best of the best, don't have 100,000 rounds of experience, cleaning regularly and verifying with a borescope is just one way to eliminate a variable, leaving me free to concentrate on other factors.

Although I've owned and used endoscope cameras for decades, none performed as well as the Teslong, regardless of price. The Teslong has opened up a whole new avenue for acquiring useful information in the maintenance of my equipment, and exposed the areas where I fell down on the maintenance without knowing it.

It's probably one of the biggest and cheapest game changers to come along in quite a while.

Have a Hawkeye bought some years ago when they had a "sale". Notice today they are running upwards of $1,000 with the whistles and bells. Think I paid somewhere around $450 - $500 for mine. A useful tool that doesn't get used all that much, but a real saver when thinking of buying a used firearm. Also have some wildcats noted as being barrel burners and am able to keep close track of throat/bore wear.
