Borescope results.

I got my new 17" Hawkeye kit w/angle eye piece in today and all I can say is WOW...I should of bought one 25 yrs ago!

Upon inspection of my BHW AR15 6x45 bbl the insides look abosoluty perfect for the 5p SS select match bbl, very smooth without all the hammer marks, (what I did see were very smooth) no wonder it shot so darn good.

My new McGowan bbl...for a select SS match bbl...weell BHW has it beat! Although its very nice inside you can't miss the marks the rifling machine leaves...actually looks like my Savage bbl, you know its not hand lapped. This one does not have a round through it yet either.

My 4105 round .223 Savage bbl looks like new still, hammer rifling all through it, No erosion, my throat is perfect still! Rifling starts right at the neck, nice & sharp

My 41,367 round .223 bbl looks very good after I get past the worn throat (about an inch + some!) and into the rifling, so smooooth from all those rounds right up to the end , then a bit of more rough area about 3/8" in from the muzzle. This is my wall hanger bbl now & the McGown is in its place.

I did not see/find any fouling or moly/carbon in any of my bbls. I can now attest to Wipeout being tops in fouling removal!

5spd: Wait 'til you see the results when/if you go to buy a used rifle, you know, the ones that are described by the seller as "can't be told from new". Several years ago I was looking for a used Remington 700 SA to build on, found a 243 that the owner said had only fired "a couple of boxes of ammo". Well, each box must have contained 500 rounds, because the bore looked like a sewar pipe, complete junk. He had been asking $450, I offered $250, and he took it. Saved $200 right there.

1. Who was the lucky merchant?

2. How long does the Wipeout have to sit to obtain this kind of result?

I just got my borescope a month ago, and don't know how I went so long without it. I know this model will scope 20 cal barrels, but for 17 cal the main tube measures about .166 and with mirror tube on it, its right at .195.

I now know when my barrel is clean and don't have to guess and I had scoped a friends rifle that quit shooting and was driving him crazy and we found hard carbon fouling, a treatment with JB bore cleaner got it spotless and everyone is happy again.

+1 on Fdshuster/ 40XGuy's post! Best investment I ever made. I just recently cleaned my brux, and Brouthon barrels as usal. Then scoped them after patches were coming out as white as they went in. (no signs of any foulings) But the Hawkeye showed Carbon building up on the lands. Got some JB bore paste and no more worries of carbon. I continue to find more and more uses for the Hawkeye! Like I said best investment I ever made. When you consider I spend $600 to $700 for each barrel!! It's worth every penny!
Thanks
Mark

I swab, nylon brush & re swab 4x then let it sit for 2 hrs.
In real bad copper foulers I'll do that then hit it with the foam and let it sit over night.

I've had mine for several years.

It definitely separates the wheat from the chaff......

I'm in the market for a new rifle scope to put on top of my new 6BR. Should I redirect my funds towards a Hawkeye instead?

It sounds like everyone who owns a bore scope regrets not getting one sooner. For the guys that own bore scopes... would you hold off on buying a new Sightron 8-32x56 in order to buy a Hawkeye bore scope? Of course, later down the road, pick up the new Sightron :)

queen_stick,
I did this just last summer. I pushed back a NF scope, and a Sinclair front rest on the priorty list to get the Hawkeye. I'm glad I did. I would do it the same way again in a heart beat! I can justify it as I watch what goes own in every barrel Or even in one case a bushing and a die. Many uses for the Hawkeye! You want regreit it!

Thanks for the tip. Now I don't need a bore scope. ;D

Tough call.

I put it off wondering if I really needed to know what was going on in the inside of the barrel. In the end, yup, no question. I look in mine after every cleaning, just because.....

If the scope is not a dire need, I'd probably spring for one now.

Thanks guys. I have something to think about...
The new 6BR is useless without a sight, but I don't "need" it for comp or for hog hunting (I have other sticks to use)... If i get the bore scope, I probably won't be ale to use the new gun until the end of summer (whenever I buy the scope). However, the overall benefit of getting a Hawkeye may outweigh not being able to use the new toy for a few months.

RJ338 - I like the idea, but it's just not feasible at this time :(

5spd, and all who posted this is a good thread especially for me as sometimes I need a little push, every time I think about buying one another S&B or NF comes along, most all you guys on this thread has been instrumental in other decisions I needed help making this is no exception I am biting the bullet and ordering one, I like nice equipment, I have guns ranging from .17 through .50 cal, 20" through 34" tubes which model and which vendor do you suggest?? Thanks in advance fellas for your advice.
Wayne.

If you're cleaning barrels & not verifying the outcome, you're only fooling yourself.
Looking at a crown w/ a bore scope, brings on a whole new light, looking from the inside out per say.

Gradient Lens Slim Line w/ adjustable focus,90 degree & 75 degree mirrors & 90 degree adjustable focus angle adapter.
An LED light source produces whiter light compared to the included mag light.

I've been viewing for 15+ yrs.

Some barrels will make you cringe!!!!!!

For me the learning experience alone ( not to mention the money saved when buying a used rifle, and throwing away money on the snake-oil cleaning products), has made my borescope purchases ( one for me, one for my son) a much greater learning experience than any scope purchase (including the Nightforce's) I've ever made. I have to smile when someone tells me " I run a couple of wet patches down my barrel with my special Brand X solvent, a couple of dry, and my barrel is spotlessly clean". Ya, right, sure it is! :D
