Bore Tech Rimfire Blend vs Hoppes

I have a question regarding the effectiveness of Bore Tech Rimfire Blend solvent versus good old Hoppes solvent. I’ve been using Hoppes to clean my Anschutz 64 SBR and my customized Suhl bench gun. Hoppes has always done a decent job for me and both rifles perform well. I’ve been reading how many folks really like the Bore Tech product. I’ve searched these forums and also observed very positive comments about BT. Thoughts on how these 2 solvents compare would be appreciated.

I looked on Amazon and 16 ounces of BT is $50, a bit more than Hoppes . That being said if BT is a superior product then I’ll give it a go.

Thanks

Ive done fine with Hoppes and a heck of alot cheaper. Smells great too.....

Check midway for the Solvent. I think 30 bucks.
I personally don’t think Hoppes compares to bore tech RF blend. I one had an old 22 that had years of fouling in it and everything I tried just kind of smeared the lead around. So I broke down and bought the BT RFB and it cleaned it right out with a little work. I have never used anything since on my Rimfires. Centerfire I been a big consumer of Butches bore shine. Actually when I kind of quit CF shooting a lot I’m sure they noticed the drop in sales

The c4 carbon remover soaking on a patch in the throat is a new thing to me but I’m finding it works good. I never had carbon ring problems due to all the butches I used but I am running into a carbon ring on this rimfire. So the C4 and RFB. Is the best combination I think there is.

RB is what you want, the citrus cleaner is specifically formulated to work on waxy rimfire lubes which is why many RFBR shooters use it, gets right down to clean metal .

I've used both BT RF blend and Montana RF solvent. Both work well, the CZ seems to prefer the Montana solvent over the BT RF Blend in terms of the CZ settles down with about 5 fouler shots vs closer to 10 fouler shots if I use the BT RFB. I use the RF Blend in a V22s and Turbo V1.

I've found the BT RF Blend does little to nothing about the carbon ring, especially if you shoot Eley ammo. I have to use the C4 stuff after a match to get the carbon ring out. Lapua ammo does not seem to produce the carbon ring any where near what the Eley does.

My borescope tells me that Hoppes doesn't clean anything well. When I stopped using it in my centrefires I had lots left over and decided to use it up in my rimfires. I was surprised that it didn't work well on them either. RF Blend and C4 defeat carbon rings and fouled throats in my .22lr's very effectively. I won't be buying anymore Hoppes #9.

Guys, slightly off topic...but how do you pronounce 'Hoppes'?
I've always called it as 'Hops'. Some folks call it as 'Hoppies'.
Anyway, thanks to you folks I today bought some Bore Tech Rimfire Blend.
Have retired the last part bottle of Hoppes (Hops, Hopps, Hoppies) that I had.

I use BTRB and BTCR as part of my cleaning process for my .22s. CR patch thru first, then a saturated patch or bore mop in the chamber for a few minutes to soak, followed by about 3-4 more patches, until no carbon residue shows on the patch, then Rem 40X for a few short strokes, then finish off with a wet patch of RB, then one dry one. If I'm going to store for more than a few weeks I'll run a patch with CLP on it down the barrel.

Being in my later years, way back some years in my Youth. The EPA took the one Chemical out of Hoppies that made it work well.
I am sure the Kids will Google it.

I been using a 50/50 mix of Hoppes & Kroil oil for the past 12-13 years. works great never had a problem with CR. one barrel is about 9 years old. one thing is that I am a firm believer in brushing the bore. I am happy if I can get 8 cleanings per brush before I regulate them for scrubbing the leade or toss them.

The old #9 Hoppes and the new Hoppes Black to the job just fine and overall they are the best buy on the market as #9 has been for years.
If I want a extra boost, then use a little wipe out foam.

Many years ago I was taught by a custom gun builder that Hoppes was used to remove powder fouling. And that I was to use something else to address lead or copper fouling in combination with Hoppes, alternating until my patches came out clean. It makes since to me because that is how the deposits are laid down in the barrel. I was also taught to clean regularly as a routine.
